Here’s a dental lesson to brighten your day!

Teeth are composed of various parts and layers, but there are three main ones that you should know about:

First is the enamel. This is the hard outer part of your pearly whites ;)

Underneath the enamel is another layer called dentin. When your enamel wears down, it exposes the dentin. This can cause extreme sensitivity to cold and hot temperatures.

Within the tooth itself is a softer material called pulp. Pulp is made up of nerves and blood vessels.

Here’s a dental tip for you to sink your teeth into…

Prevent plaque before it becomes a problem!

Here are some of the ways you can do it:

- If possible, brush after every meal — and use a fluoride toothpaste for better results.

- Floss, floss, floss. Plenty of food particles get trapped in the spaces between your teeth. So take some time to knock ‘em loose!

- Rinse your mouth daily with a fluoride mouthwash.

- Avoid sugary sodas and foods.

- Consider getting dental sealants — these protect the biting surfaces of your back teeth from decay.

- Visit your dentist at least twice per year for routine cleanings
