Why are Endodontists called specialists? Typically, in order to meet those requirements to become an endodontist, a dentist must complete an additional 2+ years of training after dental school.
Here’s a little info about Dr. Kerr- he graduated magna cm laude from Virginia Commonwealth University Medical College of Virginia. After his training, he then went on and completed a post-graduate Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD). Virginia became home for a few years as he practiced general dentistry in Richmond. Upon returning to school, Dr. Mark Kerr then served as Chief Resident during a two-year specialty internship in Endodontics at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical College of Virginia.
Kerr Endodontics is a dental office that specializes in root canal procedures and endodontic surgeries. Dr. Mark Kerr is a Board-Certified Endodontist that has gone through many additional years of training in order to diagnose tooth pain and perform complex treatments.

MYTH.

You should expect to return to your general dentist after receiving a root canal. A follow up appointment is necessary so a permanent filling can be placed and possibly a new crown. The temporary filling that is placed after the root canal procedure is finished will eventually wash out after a few weeks, therefore, it is necessary to make that follow up appointment to help decrease the chances of re-infection or crack.

MYTH!

While a hot and cold sensitive tooth usually results in the need for root canal treatment, many times a tooth can require root canal treatment when there is no pain present. Endodontists are specially trained to test a tooth to see if the pulp has been infected or damaged. If this is the case, a root canal is necessary to save the tooth.
