Yes, headgear is still a thing! And this progress is proof of why we still use it.

These photos are just 4 months apart using a reverse pull headgear (facemask) to help correct an underbite. For growing patients, this appliance helps encourage the upper jaw to grow forward and improve the relationship between the upper and lower jaws.

We often recommend wearing reverse pull headgear as much as possible while at home and while sleeping. Consistency is key! The more consistently it’s worn, the more opportunity we have to guide growth in the right direction.

Timing matters, too. For children who are still growing, early evaluation and treatment can give us the best opportunity to influence jaw growth.

This patient was concerned about showing too much gum tissue when smiling. Instead of surgery, we used Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) paired with Spark Clear Aligners to gently intrude the upper teeth. By applying light, continuous forces, we were able to reduce her gummy smile and create a more balanced, natural looking smile.

The photos above were shared by our patient after she compared recent photos to older ones. She was ecstatic to see how much her smile and overall facial appearance had changed throughout treatment.
