That burn? That blast of mint? That my mouth must be SO clean feeling?

We have some thoughts about that.
Your mouth isn’t supposed to be sterile.

It’s home to a complex community of bacteria that helps maintain a healthy oral environment. When that community gets out of balance, we call it oral dysbiosis.

And trying to kill all the bacteria isn’t necessarily the answer.
Frequent use of certain antiseptic mouthwashes can disrupt the oral microbiome, reducing beneficial bacteria right along with the ones you’re trying to control.

That matters because a healthy oral microbiome does more than help protect your teeth and gums. Oral bacteria also participate in processes like nitrate reduction, which supports nitric oxide production and cardiovascular health.

So if you’re reaching for mouthwash every morning because of bad breath, bleeding gums, plaque, or that fuzzy-mouth feeling, we’d rather ask:

Why is it happening in the first place?

Sometimes a therapeutic rinse is exactly what you need. But the goal shouldn’t be to carpet-bomb your microbiome and hope the mint takes care of the rest.
