Think brushing harder means cleaner teeth? It actually might be doing the opposite. 🪥

Scrubbing too hard (or using a brush with stiff bristles) can wear down your enamel over time, especially along the gum line. This is called toothbrush abrasion, and it's one of the most common causes of sensitivity we see. Once that enamel wears away, the softer layer underneath becomes exposed, and suddenly cold drinks, sweet foods, or even a breeze can trigger that sharp zing.

The fix is simpler than you'd think:
🦷 Switch to a soft-bristled toothbrush (your enamel will thank you)
🦷 Use gentle, circular motions instead of scrubbing back and forth
🦷 Let the bristles do the work, you don't need to press hard to get a good clean
🦷 Replace your toothbrush every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles start to fray

More pressure doesn't mean a better clean. A softer approach is actually what your teeth and gums need to stay healthy long-term.

Already noticing some sensitivity along your gum line? Give us a call at 704.864.9949 and let's take a look. 💙

Summer is almost here, and so are all the cold drinks and treats that come with it. 🍋☀️

Before you grab that second glass of lemonade or crack open another soda, here's something worth knowing: high-acid drinks can actually soften your enamel over time. Enamel is the protective outer layer of your teeth, and once it starts to wear down, it doesn't come back. That's often when sensitivity kicks in and those cold sips start to sting.

You don't have to skip your summer favorites, though. A few small habits can go a long way:
🦷 Use a straw to minimize contact with your teeth
🦷 Rinse with water after acidic drinks or snacks
🦷 Wait at least 30 minutes before brushing (brushing too soon on softened enamel can actually do more harm than good)
🦷 Balance it out by drinking plenty of water throughout the day

Enjoy your summer, just give your enamel a little love along the way. 💙 Have questions or dealing with sensitivity? Give us a call at 704.864.9949!

Happy National Receptionists Day to the two people who help keep our dental clinic running! 💙

Heather and Julia, you two handle it all. Scheduling appointments, keeping everything organized, and making sure every patient feels welcomed the moment they walk in. Our team gets to do their best work every day because you two have everything lined up behind the scenes.

We appreciate you today and every day. Bass Dentistry wouldn't be Bass Dentistry without you. 🫶

Ever get that sudden, sharp zing in your tooth out of nowhere? Here's what's actually happening. 🦷

Your enamel is like the protective shell of your tooth. It covers a softer layer underneath called dentin, which is full of tiny tunnels that lead straight to your nerves. When your enamel starts to wear down (from grinding, acid, heavy brushing, or just time), those tunnels become exposed, and that's when everyday things like cold water, a bite of something sweet, or even a breath of cold air can send that jolt through your tooth.

The good news? We can help. At Bass Dentistry, we use treatments that seal those tiny tunnels, blocking the path to the nerve and stopping the sensitivity at the source.

If you've been dealing with zingers and just powering through, you don't have to. Give us a call at 704.864.9949 and let's figure out what's going on. 💙

To save or to extract? That is the question. 🦷

When a tooth is badly decayed or infected, it can feel like pulling it is the easiest fix. But whenever possible, saving your natural tooth with a root canal is the way to go, and here's why.

Your natural teeth are designed to work together. Keeping yours in place helps maintain a proper bite, supports the surrounding teeth, and protects your jawbone from the changes that can happen when a tooth goes missing. It also means avoiding (or at least delaying) more involved treatments later on, like bridges or implants.

Root canals have come a long way, too. With modern techniques and our gentle approach, the procedure is far more comfortable than its reputation suggests. The goal is simple: keep your smile strong, healthy, and yours for as long as possible.💙
