Nervous about the dentist? You're truly not alone. 🦷
Research from NYU College of Dentistry found that nearly 3 in 4 adults feel some level of dental fear, so if your stomach knots up before an appointment, you're in very good company.
The hard part is that anxiety often leads to skipping visits, which lets small issues grow into bigger ones, which makes the next visit feel even scarier. It becomes a cycle. The good news is there's a lot you can do to break it.
A few things that help:
🔹 Tell us you're nervous. Just saying it out loud lets our team slow down, explain each step, and check in with you along the way.
🔹 Agree on a stop signal. A simple raised hand means "pause," and knowing you're in control takes a surprising amount of pressure off.
🔹 Bring headphones. Music or a podcast can mask the sounds that tend to trigger anxiety the most.
🔹 Book a low-pressure first visit. Sometimes just a cleaning or a consult is enough to rebuild trust before anything else.
🔹 Try slow breathing. Inhale for four counts, out for four. It genuinely calms your nervous system in the chair.
You deserve a calm, judgment-free experience, and helping anxious patients feel at ease is something we care about deeply.
