Here is something that surprises people who come to us from a big chain. Our appointments are longer. Not because we are slow, but because getting a prosthesis right takes time that a high-volume schedule does not allow. We watch how you move. We test. We adjust, then test again. Hurricane season is here, and a little preparation can make a big difference. 🌧️

If you use a prosthesis, make sure your emergency plan includes the supplies and mobility essentials you may need before severe weather arrives.

Keep extra liners, prosthetic socks, skin care supplies, important documents, chargers, and any backup mobility device in an easy to access, weather protected place. And remember, not every prosthetic component is waterproof unless confirmed by the manufacturer or your prosthetist.

If something is not fitting or functioning quite right, contact your care team before the storm.

Static fitting tells you how a prosthesis looks while a patient stands. It does not tell you how they actually move. In our training center we capture and analyze gait, symmetry, and weight distribution, then use that data to drive socket and alignment decisions. For your patients, that means fewer return visits for unexplained discomfort and better functional outcomes over time. For you, it means referring into a process that measures what it claims to improve. Happy to walk any referring clinician through what the analysis looks like.

A socket that has stopped fitting rarely fails all at once. It tells you in smaller ways first. Pain or discomfort that was not there before. Redness or skin irritation after you take it off. A feeling of the limb moving or pistoning inside the socket. Or that unsteady feeling when you walk, like you cannot fully trust your step. If you notice any of these, your socket may need a look.

The socket is the part of your prosthesis that connects to your limb, and it decides almost everything about how the rest feels. When it fits well, you get comfort, control, and a device you can trust for the long term. When it does not, no foot or knee component can make up the difference. When you refer a patient for prosthetic care, the communication often goes quiet right when you need it most. We think that is backwards. Referring clinicians should get clear, clinical updates on fit, function, and progress, not silence. Our model is built around closing that loop: proactive updates, direct coordination with your PTs, and documentation that actually supports the medical record. The result is fewer surprises for you and better continuity for the patient. We would rather over-communicate than leave you guessing.
