Want to know what makes a great day at work for me? It's almost never about the dentistry.

A great day is when someone has that lightbulb moment and realizes they're worth taking care of. It's happy tears when I hand someone a mirror. It's a patient telling me his wife just beat cancer.

We laugh in my office. We hug. When someone's carrying something heavy, we carry it with them.

One of my teammates says there are no bad days here, and she's right. Hard days happen. Bad ones don't.

Because at the end of it, this was never about one more crown. It's about the people in the chair.

Your gums and the rest of your body are far more connected than most people think.

For a long time, insurance companies treated your mouth as separate from your body, mostly because it was convenient for them. But your mouth is a doorway into everything else.

Gum disease is a good example. The same bacteria that infect your gums are linked to problems in your heart, and researchers are now seeing connections to conditions like Alzheimer's and dementia. Gum disease and diabetes also work against each other, each one making the other harder to control.

You can't see gum disease coming, and you usually can't feel it until it's advanced. That's why we look for it early and stay on top of it.

Sometimes a patient leaves, and then they come home.

One of mine did just that. She wanted to be in network, so she went to a different office to save money. I understood. That happens.

A while later, she came back. She'd said the new place never felt right whereas Transformation Dentistry feels just like family, and she’s never leaving again.

She needed some repair by then. A few crowns to cover teeth that had chipped and worn down. We got her put back together.

She came back because she knew I'd never recommend something she didn't need, and that here, she wasn't a number.

If that's the bar, something has gone wrong with regular checkups. A thorough exam shouldn't be a pleasant surprise. It should be normal.

Healthy gums shouldn't regularly bleed when you brush.

If you're bleeding, that's a sign of inflammation, and it's worth paying attention to. Avoiding the spot that bleeds doesn't solve the underlying issue, it just puts off dealing with it.

What if catching a cavity early meant no drill and no needle?

For small, early cavities, that's now possible. We use a treatment called Curodont Repair. In plain terms, it rebuilds weak enamel from the inside out, using what's already in your saliva to strengthen the tooth before the decay ever needs drilling.

It's one quick application, with no shot and no drilling involved. It works gradually over the next year or so while the tooth heals itself.

For years, the only choice for a tiny early cavity was to watch it and wait, then drill it once it got worse. I love that I can offer something better now, especially for students and younger patients whose cavities are often caught at that early stage.

The hardest part about returning to the dentist isn't sitting in the chair. It's walking through the front door.

If it's been 5, 10, 15 years since you've seen a dentist, you might worry about what I'll find, what I'll say, or even what I'll think of you. I want you to know I'm not here to judge you, not about what we find, not about how long it's been.

My only concern is figuring out where we are and where we're headed together.
