☀️🦷 SCHOOL’S OUT… BUT CAVITIES DON’T TAKE A SUMMER BREAK! 🍦🍉🏖️
Summer is one of the happiest times of the year for kids — vacations, pool days, snow cones, sleepovers, sports camps, and late nights making memories. But for parents, summer can also quietly become the season where dental routines fall apart.
At Pediatric Dentistry East P.C., we see it every year:
➡️ More sugary drinks
➡️ Constant snacking
➡️ Missed brushing routines
➡️ Sports-related dental injuries
➡️ Back-to-school dental rushes in August
Here are a few simple ways to protect your child’s smile this summer while still enjoying every minute of the fun:
🌊 Keep water bottles nearby
Water helps rinse sugar and acids away while keeping kids hydrated during Alabama heat.
🍓 Choose “tooth-friendly” snacks when possible
Fresh fruit, cheese, yogurt, nuts, and protein snacks are much better for teeth than sticky candies and constant grazing.
🪥 Stick to a routine — even on vacation
Brushing 2x daily and flossing still matters at the beach, lake, or baseball tournament. Consistency is what prevents cavities.
⚾ Don’t forget mouthguards for summer sports
A custom or properly fitted mouthguard can prevent serious dental injuries during baseball, softball, football workouts, gymnastics, and more.
🍧 Limit all-day sipping
Sports drinks, juice, sweet tea, and sodas become much more damaging when kids sip on them throughout the day.
📚 Schedule cleanings before school starts
July fills up FAST every year as families prepare for school. Summer is actually one of the best times to catch small dental problems before they become big ones.
At the end of the day, childhood should be fun. Our goal is simply to help families protect healthy smiles while kids enjoy being kids. ❤️
We are grateful for the families who trust us with their children every single day.
