🇺🇸In 1866, Lucy Beaman Hobbs made history as the first woman to receive a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in the United States. At a time when women were systematically excluded from formal medical education, Lucy refused to let barriers define her path. She initially studied dentistry privately under a professor, after being denied entry to dental school solely because of her gender.

Her determination and skill quickly earned recognition, and after years of advocacy and perseverance, she was finally accepted into the Ohio College of Dental Surgery—becoming not only a licensed dentist but a symbol of progress in a male-dominated profession.

Lucy went on to inspire generations of women to pursue careers in healthcare. Today, her legacy lives on in every woman who takes up the dental mirror and drill, proving that resilience, passion, and talent can reshape the future of medicine.
