Let me tell you what "conservative dentistry" actually means to me.

It's simple: it's how *I* would want to be treated.

People think conservative care means doing nothing, just watching and waiting. That's not it at all.

It means getting you the result you want while protecting as much of your natural tooth as possible. So instead of grinding down a healthy tooth, maybe I move it into a better position first, then do a thin composite or porcelain veneer, adding to your tooth instead of cutting it away.

Same beautiful result. Way less of your natural tooth sacrificed to get there.

Because I'm not just thinking about how your smile looks today, but how it serves you 20, 30 years from now. The more of your own tooth we keep, the more we have to work with later.

Preserve your natural teeth or replace them? I think the answer's pretty clear. πŸ’™

Curious what conservative care could look like for you? Let's talk.

I kept having the same visits with patients in my Frisco dental office. Patients would sit down in my chair and their gums would be bleeding. We could effectively treat them and reset them at their visits but then when they returned in 4-6 months we would see the same thing.

Same treatment, same conversation, same result. Time and time again.

And at some point I just thought, there HAS to be something more. I can't keep doing the same thing every visit and expecting a different outcome. That's not what I got into dentistry for. I don't want to just treat what I see. I want to know WHY it's there. I want to help improve things and really make a change in patients’ health and lives.

So we started asking different questions. Not just, "Are you flossing?" but, "Have you had blood work done?" Not just, "Your gums are bleeding," but, "What's your A1C? What's your vitamin D? Are you breathing through your nose at night or are you a mouth breather ?”

We started looking at saliva, biofilm, nitric oxide levels and pH connecting things that nobody was connecting before.

Now when patients come in, we actually have DIFFERENT CONVERSATIONS. Things improve and we can see WHY. Or they don't improve, and now we know to look somewhere new instead of repeating the same cycle.

Sometimes the most caring thing I can say is, "Let's wait."

That's not what you expect to hear in a dental office. But conservative care means knowing the right treatment at the wrong time isn't really treatment at all.

When a patient asks about an implant, I don't just look at the gap. I look at the whole picture. Your age. Whether you're in pain. Whether you're still growing. And most importantly, whether your mouth is actually ready.

If your gums aren't healthy and your oral microbiome isn't balanced, placing an implant now sets you up to struggle later. So sometimes we heal the foundation first, then do the work that lasts.

Waiting isn't doing nothing. It's doing the right thing in the right order so it works for YOU.

Is it your time to treat or your time to wait? Let's figure it out together.

How much water have you had today? Not coffee or Diet Coke. Actual WATER.

I ask this at almost every appointment now, and the answer is almost always, "Not enough." Which I get. We're all so busy that we just run on caffeine and hope for the best.

But when you're not hydrated, your saliva production drops. And you NEED that saliva to neutralize acid, wash away bacteria, help remineralize your teeth. Without enough of it, your mouth turns acidic.

Bacteria LOVE an acidic environment. They absolutely THRIVE in it.

So you're doing everything right at home. Brushing, flossing, all of it and your mouth is still fighting an uphill battle because the environment itself is working against you.

It doesn't have to be complicated. More water. Hydrating foods like cucumbers and berries. Electrolytes so your body actually absorbs what you're taking in.

You floss every night. You brush twice a day. You do everything right.

So why do your gums still bleed?

Here's what I wish more people knew: most of the time, it's not about effort. It's about what's happening UNDER your gums and how your body responds to inflammation.

And here's something else: your mouth and your gut are part of the same system. Inflammation doesn't stay in one place. Chronic inflammation in your mouth can affect your digestion, your blood sugar, your energy, things you'd never connect to your teeth.

That's why oral health is never just about teeth. When we take care of your mouth, we're supporting your whole body. πŸ’™

You're brushing. You're flossing. You're doing literally everything right. And your gums still bleed ALL the time.

We had a patient come into my Frisco dental office. A man in his late twenties, not on any medications, no health problems, takes great care of himself. But his gums were always bleeding. So we ran Oral DNA testing… and his bacteria were low risk across the board.

Which was NOT the result I was expecting.

So I asked him when he'd last had blood work done. He kind of paused and said, "Maybe ten years ago? I feel healthy, so I never thought about it."

I 100% believed him. He WAS doing everything right. But feeling healthy and being healthy aren't always the same thing. His A1C could be creeping up. His Vit D levels could be low. There could be systemic inflammation showing up in his gums before it shows up anywhere else. We're waiting on those results now.

But now, at least he's stopped thinking of his dental visits as just teeth cleanings. Now he gets that we see you more often than your doctor does.

If something's off, we want to catch it.

Today, we pause.

To the men and women who gave everything so we could live ordinary, beautiful days, thank you. To the families who carry that loss, we see you.

From all of us at Preston Ridge Dental, we remember.

Have you ever left a dental appointment feeling rushed?

Like the moment you sat down, the clock started ticking, and your questions felt like an inconvenience?

That's not how we do things at Preston Ridge Dental.

A patient recently told us what she loved most: everything happened at HER pace. If she needed a breath, we stopped. If she needed to ask a question, we listened. If she needed time to think, we gave her space.

This isn't special treatment. This is just how we practice dentistry in Frisco.

And our front desk anchor Rhonda? Patients text and call her with questions all the time, and she always finds a way to help. "Can we push this to next visit?" She figures it out with you.

Care at your pace isn't a slogan. It's how we show up every day.

Building a team is one of the hardest things about owning a practice.

Anyone can hire someone who shows up on time and knows the clinical steps. That's not what I'm looking for. I want people who actually care what happens to the person in the chair, who remember that behind every set of X-rays is a real human being who's maybe a little nervous, maybe hasn't been to a dentist in years, maybe just got news they weren't expecting.

I'm building the rest of this team carefully. With people who fit what we're actually doing here, which is whole-body, personalized care that takes time and actually listens. That kind of dentistry only works if every single person in this office is bought into it from the person who greets you at the door to the person handing me instruments in the back.

We're growing. We're not rushing it. Because the wrong fit isn't fair to our patients, and our patients deserve better than that.

Come experience the difference.

Sometimes the best treatment is the one we *don't* rush into.

I know that sounds strange coming from a dentist. But if I can safely push treatment down the road for you, I consider that a win.

Dentistry is evolving every year. What's "standard" today might be replaced by something far less invasive in 10 or 20 years. So when a young patient is facing a big treatment decision, I ask a different question:

Do we *have* to do this now? Or can we protect what's there and keep your options open for later?

This isn't always the popular opinion. There's pressure to fix everything fast and permanently. But conservative care honors what your body already has, your natural tooth, your healthy structure, your future choices.

Especially for younger patients, I'd rather buy you time than lock you into something permanent at 20 that you'll live with at 60.

You deserve a dentist thinking about your whole life, not just today's appointment.
