June is National Safety Month, which is the perfect time to address stability—especially if you wear a prosthesis or orthotic brace.

Here’s a quick safety checklist as we head into summer:
▪️ Watch out for wet pool decks
▪️ Choose shoes with a stable sole and be careful when choosing flip flops or sandals
▪️ Slow down on stairs and curbs when carrying bags

Remember: if something feels off, don’t push through discomfort. Small fit issues can affect balance, and we’re happy to make adjustments to help. Request an adjustment here: https://ow.ly/HaIv50YVEMq

Between graduations, vacations, and long weekends, a little prep goes a long way when it comes to travel plans. If you’re traveling with a prosthesis or orthosis, here’s a quick travel checklist:

▪️ Backup socks/liners
▪️ Small cleaning cloth/wipes
▪️ Any tools/supplies your clinician recommends
▪️ A plan for swelling such as extra breaks
▪️ Comfortable footwear that has been broken in or tested
▪️ If you require assistance at the airport, call ahead to make arrangements

Thinking ahead now can ensure a smooth vacation with all of the fun and none of the stress. ✈️

Whether you wear a prosthetic device or support someone who does, a quick daily skin check is a game-changer. Here’s a skin check routine to follow:

▪️ Look for redness that doesn’t fade after removing the device
▪️ Check bony area and edges where friction happens
▪️ Notice swelling, warmth, or tender spots
▪️ If something looks “new,” keep track and reach out early

Skin issues can increase with heat and activity. Catching issues early makes it easier to prevent extended discomfort.

If you’re more active now than you were during the winter, it’s normal to experience an “off” feeling with your prosthesis or orthotic device, and a fit check allows us to make adjustments so you get the comfort and support you need.

Here are a few signs it’s time for a fit check:
▪️ New rubbing or redness
▪️ Pressure points that weren’t there before
▪️ A change in balance or gait
▪️ You’re tightening or loosening straps more than usual

Comfort and alignment matter! Give us a call or click here to schedule your appointment: https://ow.ly/OEHv50YIP1S

If you're a new amputee, you probably have a lot of questions. One of the most common questions we hear is "How soon after amputation will I get back to doing activities that I normally do?"
