Brushing after each meal is ideal because food particles and bacteria can build up on your teeth within minutes of eating or drinking. Brushing right away neutralizes the toothpaste and gets rid of plaque before it hardens into tartar.
The American Dental Association recommends brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste for at least two minutes each time. However, brushing three times a day is not excessive and can help reverse gingivitis. Have questions about our dental services? We'd be happy to help you out! Call us at (559) 497-8300.

People who drink 3 or more glasses of soda daily have 62% more chance of developing tooth decay, fillings, and tooth loss than those who do not. Remember, every can of soda contains 10-12 teaspoons of sugar, and the daily recommended intake is 4 teaspoons. Be sure to rinse your mouth with water after consuming sugary drinks and always brush your teeth to remove any leftover residue that can cause cavities. Have you ever seen small bits of calcified debris caught in the crevices in the glands in the back of your throat? Those are likely tonsil stones, or tonsilloliths. Our tonsils’ main purpose is to prevent bacteria from our mouth from entering our throat, but they don’t always do their jobs. Tonsil stones can form from chronically inflamed tonsils, large tonsils with larger pockets for buildup, sinus issues, and even poor dental hygiene. Typically, a good oral care routine can rid the mouth of the stones, and they go away on their own; however, there are some instances where treatment is required. If you have tonsil stones, make an appointment with us at (559) 497-8300 to determine what course of action is best for you.

Tonsil stones can cause irritation, painful swallowing, and an unpleasant odor. Learn more about tonsil stone causes, treatment, and prevention at Oralb.com.

Kicking back with some delicious cocktails can be a real treat—but many of the alcoholic beverages you use to wind down could be doing damage to your teeth. Avoid red drinks, such as: sangria, mimosas, bloody marys, and cranberry. Clear drinks like vodka water might be your best bet for teeth-friendly cocktails. Gin is also one of the least acidic liquors. Clear liquors in moderation are not only low on sugar, but they can also kill some of the bacteria in your mouth that cause bad breath.
