Dental sealants are a thin, protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth, where most cavities in children and teenagers develop. The grooves and pits of molars are often too narrow for bristles to clean effectively, making them prime spots for bacteria to settle. Sealants seal those surfaces off entirely and have been shown to reduce cavity risk in those areas by a significant margin. They are quick to apply and entirely painless.
