The close of the 2017 year will bring to an end the 23+ years Shelley Meyer has worked at our office. We invite you to join us in wishing her well during her retirement. (Also, if you know of someone who would be a good fit in her position, please tell them to contact us) We look forward to enjoying these last few months of working with Shelley.

I took post graduate courses at the LD Pankey Institute. Dr. Pankey talked about the Cross of Life. How happiness came from a balance between love, work, play, and worship. I try to keep this balance in mind. This month Sue and I attended the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine meeting in Boston and also the Jimmy Buffett concert in Frisco, Texas with friends Tim and Pat Malhoit. Both of these activities help keep me balanced and happy. Keep Smiling

I was recognized at the Nebraska Dental Association(NDA) Annual Session as a 2017 New ADA Lifetime member. I am shown with some of my dental school 1976 classmates and the 2017 President's Award recipient, Dr. Stan Harn. Dr. Harn was our anatomy professor in his first year at the College of Dentistry. Also pictured are Dr. Mark & Karen Schlothauer. Mark "Bulldog" was President of the NDA this past year.

I spent the weekend in St. Petersburg at the American Academy of Dental Practice annual meeting. Two days of classes and interactions with other dentists were very stimulating. Saturday night the meeting ended with a dinner dance. The Raw Nerve of Lincoln was the band. Sue and I are pictured with Dr. Jim Jenkins and his wife Kathy. Jim played his Molarcaster guitar. We are also shown with Dr. Phil Strevey and his wife Sarah, from Omaha. Phil was the program chair for the meeting. Dr. Bob Schoettger, also of the Raw Nerve, is the photobomber.

I just found out that I earned the Qualified Dentist designation from the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. Dental Sleep Medicine is an area of dental practice that focuses on the use of oral appliance therapy to treat sleep disordered breathing, including snoring and obstructive sleep apnea(OSA).
Sue and I just returned from the American Equilibration Society and American Academy of Restorative Dentistry meetings in Chicago. The bagpipes started the AES meeting off well and both meetings were very informative. The food in Chicago was also good.

We spent Friday in Omaha at continuing education courses presented by a dental supplier. The courses were informational and by splitting up we were able to hear several different speakers. They also had manufacturer representatives present so that we could get any questions answered on the spot. It was a very pleasant and informative day. We Keep You Smiling.

I was in Denver last week for the American Dental Association 2016 meeting. While there I sponsored Dr. Tim Pieper, a classmate at Nebraska, into the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. He is very deserving of these honors. I also spent some time with Mr. Molar in the Exhibit Hall. It was a great meeting. We Keep You Smiling,

Last weekend was the 40th reunion of my Dental class at UNMC College of Dentistry. The picture is of me and some of my classmates with Dr. Stan Harn, the anatomy professor at the Dental College. Our class was the first class he taught at the Dental College. Of course the reunion included the Wyoming-UNL game. Sue and I are pictured with Herbie Husker. What a fun weekend.

I recently returned from the Academy of General Dentistry(AGD) Annual Meeting in Boston. While there I received my second Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition from the AGD. I am one of only 269 dentists to receive this recognition and one of only 23 to receive it more than once. I first received it in 2010. To qualify for this recognition i first had to receive my Fellowship and Mastership in the AGD and complete at least 1,600 hours of CE in 16 different dental disciplines. In addition, I had to complete at least 100 hours of dental-related community/volunteer service.
I am pictured with Dr. David Jones who received his Mastership in Boston. He and I both grew up in Falls City.
I also served as Parliamentarian for the AGD House of Delegates. I am pictured with the current Speaker, Dr. Bryan Edgar from Washington and a former Speaker and current President, Dr. Mark Donald from Mississippi. I served the AGD as Speaker from 1999-2005.

Sue and I recently attended a welcome reception for the UNMC College of Dentistry Dean, Dr. Janet Guthmiller, in Omaha. While there we visited with Dr. Rick and Shelley Whitman as well as Dr. Bill Kathrein and Roxanna and Paul Jokela. Rick was a classmate of mine in dental school and Bill was two years ahead of me. Roxanna planned the reception for UNMC. We had a great time. We Keep You Smiling.

Do you have black triangles in your mouth? Dark spaces between the teeth can make the teeth look old. They are also prone to collect food debris. This can lead to cavities and gum disease. My study club met recently in Colorado Springs. We learned how to close these triangles using a minimally invasive and cost effective treatment using clear forms which are filled with a composite material matched to the shade of your teeth. This allows us to preserve as much of your tooth enamel as possible. If you have black triangles when you smile, ask us about this treatment. We Keep You Smiling.
