PoshOrtho

PoshOrtho Our philosophy of practice is simple: to provide the highest quality of care in a comfortable, and fun atmosphere.

Believing that busier is not always better, we avoid the high-volume practice in favor of a more personal approach. We feel that in this manner, we can deliver the standard of care that patients should expect. We would like you to feel that you are an equal partner in this endeavor. Orthodontics is truly a joint effort between doctor and patient; teamwork is essential if treatment is to succeed. W

e hope that, at the conclusion of treatment, you will feel that you were treated in a professional and caring manner. If at any time you have questions or concerns, please feel free to address these issues with our staff or us. We look forward to sharing the results of our efforts with you.

June is National Smile Month and we’re working to raise awareness about dental health. Did you know that the community health awareness group Oral Health America has reported that 82 percent of adults are unaware of the role that infectious bacteria can play in tooth decay or cavities, and almost three out of five children aged 12 to 19 have tooth decay?

My team at Bethesda Orthodontics and Spring Valley Orthodontics has compiled a list for patients that remind them about the importance of good oral hygiene visits between office visits. Read more there: https://bit.ly/3qg1N5F

For me, everything I do is about community, and I’m grateful to be part of the Bethesda and Spring Valley neighborhoods in the Washington, DC area. And I’m even more grateful to have been named as one of Bethesda Magazine’s top orthodontists for 2020. What a year it was, but we came through it, safely serving our patients in the middle of a global pandemic!

As a recent article in Shape explained:

“Research suggests that dental disorders such as malocclusion (misaligned teeth) can cause a ‘profound impact’ on self-esteem, thereby negatively affecting the overall quality of life. While studies show this to be more common in adolescents (especially given their age and ‘increased aesthetic desire’ and ‘unique social and physiological needs’), a 2019 poll of 2,000 people emphasizes that adults are also subject to insecurities around their teeth. The study, conducted by OnePull and funded by teeth-whitening company Snow, found that seven in 10 Americans are self-conscious about their teeth, and 50 percent try to smile with their mouths closed (perhaps as a result).”

Getting braces, BRIUS or Invisalign, is not just about creating a better selfie. It’s about creating a strong smile and better health. Read more about orthodontia & confidence at my blog: https://bit.ly/3hvsGjK

I was not your typical teen. My mom was a pediatric dentist. I watched as she helped thousands of kids get, and keep, their beautiful smiles. One reason for my orthodontic appliance excitement was that, because of the work my mom and her colleagues did, I could easily see a result. I heard endless stories about how patients were more confident after all the hard work was over. As a teen, I associated braces with confidence, not disaster. I believe orthodontia improves confidence. Read more at my blog, which you can find at the link in my bio.

This young patient will be done with her first round of braces just before she turns 12. We’ve got a long road ahead, though, which may include surgery to correct mandibular retrognathia (a visibly recessed chin and overbite).

The key to navigating this journey with parents and patients? Communication, communication, communication.

We’ll take those braces off this month, but will continue to stay in contact as this tween -- and her jaw – grow!

Why does COVID19 impact your sense of smell? Genetic sequencing has confirmed the virus infects the mouth. It’s in the gums and salivary glands. The study also said it’s possible the mouth plays a role in sending the virus to the lungs or digestive system.

As orthodontists and dentists, we need to understand that, for patients, that makes visiting the dentist or orthodontist a little more anxiety producing. Which means we also need to let them know that OTHER studies show FEW dentists, hygienists and orthodontists have had the virus.

Our offices are safe. Find out more in a recent blog post: https://bit.ly/3u3e0vu

Excited to be named to Washingtonian magazine’s list of top dentists and orthodontists for 2021.

Moving to a new city and building new practices is never easy, but the Washington, DC area quickly became my home. I’m so excited to serve the families of Spring Valley and Bethesda.
