Brace Place Fun Fact of the Day!

The word “orthodontics” comes from Greek—“ortho” meaning straight and “odons” meaning tooth. So orthodontists are literally “straight-tooth specialists.”

Here’s a fall-inspired, braces-friendly recipe that’s cozy, delicious, and gentle on teeth — no crunchy or sticky textures to worry about! 🍂

Creamy Pumpkin Mac & Cheese
Why it’s braces-friendly:
Soft pasta, smooth sauce, and no hard or chewy add-ins — easy to eat and comforting!
🧀 Ingredients:
8 oz (about 2 cups) elbow macaroni or small shells (or gluten-free pasta)
1 cup canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
1 cup milk (whole or 2%)
1 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese
½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp flour
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
¼ tsp cinnamon
🍲 Instructions:
Cook the pasta:
Boil according to package directions until tender (a bit softer than al dente for braces). Drain and set aside.
Make the roux:
In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and whisk for about 1 minute.
Add the milk:
Slowly pour in milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Cook until slightly thickened (about 3–4 minutes).
Add pumpkin and spices:
Stir in pumpkin puree, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Heat through.
Melt in the cheese:
Reduce heat to low and add the shredded cheeses. Stir until melted and smooth. Add maple syrup if desired.
Combine:
Stir in the cooked pasta until fully coated with sauce.
Serve warm:
Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a swirl of extra melted cheese.

Fall Sports are here! Don’t forget your mouth guard! ⚽️ 🏈 🏑 🏐
Wearing a mouth guard with braces is very important for protecting both your teeth and the orthodontic work during sports. Here's a step-by-step guide and instructions:
🛡️ Why You Need a Mouth Guard with Braces
Protects teeth and lips: Braces can cause severe cuts to the lips or cheeks during impact.
Prevents damage to braces: Helps avoid broken brackets or wires.
Reduces risk of injury: Cushioning effect reduces trauma during falls or collisions.
❗ Avoid boil-and-bite mouth guards unless approved by your orthodontist — they can damage the brackets if molded incorrectly.
