Healthy Smile Education Helping you understand oral health one smile at a time. 🦷✨ Simple dental education, prevention tips, and resources for healthier teeth and gums.

The objective of Keep Smiling is to prevent and stop the progression of dental cavities to those most in need of our services. Many children do not have access to regular dental visits due to socio-economic challenges and lack of dental knowledge. To address this need, the Keep Smiling organization intends to provide educational workshops, dental screenings and distribute sample products to both parents and children in targeted communities. We intend to accomplish this through partnerships with schools and religious organizations.

⏱️🦷 DENTAL TERM IN 60 SECONDS: PERIODONTIUM
You hear the word periodontium all the time in hygiene school—but what exactly does it include?
🍂 Think of it as the supporting system around the teeth:
Gingiva + Periodontal Ligament + Cementum + Alveolar Bone
Together, these structures help support and stabilize the teeth and play an essential role in periodontal health.
🧠 Memory Tip:
When you hear periodontium, think “the structures supporting the tooth.”
📚 Save this for your perio review!

⏱️🦷 DENTAL TERM IN 60 SECONDS: CAL
CAL = Clinical Attachment Level
Probing depth tells us how deep the sulcus or periodontal pocket is—but CAL helps us understand the amount of periodontal attachment loss relative to the CEJ.
🧠 Remember:
CAL = Where is the attachment compared with the CEJ?
When recession is present:
Probing Depth + Recession = CAL
📚 Hygiene students: this is one worth saving for perio review!
Do CAL calculations come easily to you, or did they take a little practice? 👇

⏱️🦷 DENTAL TERM IN 60 SECONDS: FURCATION
Ever hear a dental term in class and think, “Wait… what exactly does that mean?” 😅
Furcation is the area where the roots of a multirooted tooth divide.
🔎 Clinical connection: Furcation involvement can occur with periodontal attachment and bone loss, and a Nabers probe can be used to assess the area.
🧠 Memory trick:
FURCATION = where the roots FORK!
📚 Save this for your next perio review and share it with a hygiene student!

🦷📚 ANSWER TIME! Did you get it right?

The answer is B — Maxillary Canine! 🎉

The maxillary canine has the longest root in the permanent dentition.

🧠 Memory trick:
CANINE = LONG & STRONG

Its long root contributes to stability and helps it withstand lateral forces.

💬 Did you get B? Be honest! 😂👇
