Before & After: Comprehensive Smile Rehabilitation

This patient’s concerns went beyond the appearance of his teeth.

His upper front teeth had developed mobility and increasing spaces, while the lower teeth showed significant crowding and irregular positioning. Our goal was to improve both the appearance of his smile and the relationship between his upper and lower teeth.

After comprehensive planning, we restored the upper and lower arches using a customized combination of porcelain veneers and dental crowns.

Treatment allowed us to improve tooth proportions, alignment and symmetry while creating a more harmonious bite and a natural-looking smile designed specifically for him.

One of the most important aspects of cosmetic dentistry is recognizing when a case requires more than simply placing veneers on the front teeth. We evaluate the entire smile—including tooth position, bite, function, proportions and esthetics—to determine the appropriate treatment for each patient.

Most people don’t notice the crack.

They don’t notice the chip.

They don’t notice the black triangle.

They simply think the smile looks older.

This patient wanted to improve several common cosmetic concerns:

✓ Chipped front tooth
✓ Visible crack line
✓ Black triangles between the front teeth
✓ Uneven tooth proportions
✓ Minor asymmetry

With just four porcelain veneers, we were able to create a healthier, more balanced, and more youthful smile while maintaining a completely natural appearance.

One of the biggest misconceptions about cosmetic dentistry is that every smile makeover requires treating every visible tooth.

This case is a perfect example of how strategic improvements to only a few teeth can dramatically change the overall smile.

Notice that the teeth were not dramatically whitened. Most of the improvement came from correcting shape, symmetry, and proportion.

This case was interesting because it involved two opposite smile concerns at the same time.

The upper teeth had significant spacing and gaps, while the lower teeth had crowding and alignment issues.

In carefully selected situations, restorative dentistry can sometimes improve both spacing and the appearance of alignment without traditional orthodontics. In this case, we were able to close the upper spaces without making the front teeth appear excessively wide while also dramatically improving the appearance of lower crowding and symmetry.

Orthodontics is still often the ideal treatment for many patients, and in some cases the best results come from combining orthodontics with restorative dentistry.

But many adults are surprised to learn there may be other options depending on their goals, existing dental wear, bite concerns, timeline, or whether they are candidates for orthodontic treatment.

The goal is never just to make teeth look whiter or “done.”

The goal is to create a smile that feels balanced, natural, healthy, and comfortable for the patient.
