Did your child accidentally bite their lip after a dental visit? Try not to worry, as this is actually a very common occurrence after treatment! When their mouth is still numb, your little one may not even realize they are biting their lip, cheek, or tongue.

If this happens, you can help by gently rinsing the area with water and applying a cold compress to reduce any swelling. It is also best to offer soft foods like yogurt, smoothies, or Jell-O, and completely avoid giving them solid foods until the numbness wears off.

Over the next few days, you might notice the swelling increase slightly, or a white or yellowish sore may appear. This is a normal part of the process, and most of these sores will heal entirely on their own within 10 to 14 days.

However, please contact GoKids Pediatric Dentistry if the bleeding does not stop, your child is in significant pain, or you are at all concerned about how it is healing. We are always here to help your child smile comfortably again!

For quick relief, check their mouth, have them rinse with salt water, apply a cold compress, and avoid giving them sweets. Do not wait to see a dentist if the pain lasts more than a day or two, they develop swelling or a fever, or they have trouble eating.

You can keep their smile healthy long-term by brushing twice daily, limiting sugar, and scheduling regular checkups. Save and share this post with other parents who might need it!

Building healthy smiles early starts with the best routine for your kids' teeth!

In the morning, have them brush for 2 minutes using fluoride toothpaste. After meals, make sure they rinse with water and choose healthy snacks.

The night routine is incredibly important! Kids need to brush before bed and floss daily. Just remember to allow absolutely no food or milk after that final brushing.

You can help by supervising their brushing, making the process fun, and scheduling regular dental checkups.

Save this routine and share it with other parents!

If your child sleeps with their mouth open or snores loudly, their dental development is at risk. 🦷 These common habits often look like harmless childhood phases. The root cause is frequently a restrictive underlying airway. Chronic mouth breathing alters the shape of growing jaws and prevents the brain from resting properly. This directly damages a child’s daily focus and physical growth.
You need factual answers to protect their long-term health. We assembled an expert panel to help parents understand the direct connection between a healthy airway and their child’s overall wellness.
Learn directly from our very own Pediatric Dentist Dr. Sonam Shah alongside Orthodontist Dr. Martin Avey. They both specialize in identifying and treating airway restrictions in growing patients. They are joined by Sleep Disorders Board Diplomat Dr. Scott Menaker and Speech-Language Pathologist Amelia Mudd. Together, they explain how pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, sleep medicine, and speech therapy connect to solve this hidden problem.
Do not let your child continue to struggle with preventable exhaustion. Join our virtual expert panel on March 27 at 12 PM. 🗓️
