I hope everyone’s Super Bowl 🏈 weekend was better than this guys. We squeezed him in to our schedule Monday and had him all put back together 🧩 in less than an hour. Forgive us for the gnarly image 😬😬

3 of the most commonly asked questions i receive.

📌How can i fix bad breath🤐?

Bad breath, or halitosis, is most often caused by one of 3 things:
✔️Bacteria 🦠 from cavities
✔️Bacteria 🦠 found deep within the gums
✔️Partially impacted or decaying wisdom teeth
All of these, can be treated by your dentist.
Additionally, bad breath 😷 can come from issues such as gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD), sinusitis, metabolic disorders, respiratory disorders (this includes mouth breathers) and immunologic disorders. Any of these conditions would likely be identified and diagnosed by your primary care doctor. Once diagnosed, there is often treatment that can fix or at least improve your condition.

📌How often should i see the dentist?

If you’ve historically had very little dental issues and you have excellent oral hygiene you need to see your dentist at least once every 6 months to have a regular check up and cleaning. IF, HOWEVER, you have a history filled with dental problems like cavities, gum disease, and/or missing teeth 🦷 , it would likely be advised to go once every 3 months. Be honest with yourself and pick which of these two categories you fall under 😉.

Obviously, failure to do so ensures that your dental health care bill 💵 will grow and the treatment you will inevitably need will become more extensive and invasive.

📌Do i really have to floss?

How do i write an emphatic YES??!?!??!!!!
Flossing is so key 🔑. Once a day is ideal for optimum dental health. Start the habit and you’ll quickly realize why it’s so important when you see all the food and plaque on the floss. If you’re curious at all of what you’ve been leaving behind by NOT flossing do yourself a favor and brush your teeth tonight and then afterwards floss. YOU’LL BE SHOCKED!!

Airflossers are also great and so are water picks. I would rather my patients use one of those☝️than nothing at all but they’re still not as effective as flossing.............Food 🥘 for thought 💭

We are near the end of our search for the winner of our pro bono smile 😃 transformation case. Some of our staff volunteered 🙋‍♀️to be part of the selection committee where they were responsible for watching and reviewing and ranking each of the 30+ video submissions. They narrowed more than 30 down to 3. I have since met with and examined those 3 candidates and will be deciding on a final winner by the end of this week so STAY TUNED!

Dr. Cook is going to leave you with this thought for the day......Would u have ever guessed that some people specifically don’t brush their teeth on the day they know they’re going to the dentist for a cleaning? 😬😬😬😬😬 They figure, why bother? The hygienist is going to clean them any way. 🤦‍♂️
