Yesterday was Danyelle’s last day at Sea Smiles, and this one is hard to put into words.

Danyelle was our very first hire and has been part of our team for 10.5 years. She has been here through so many seasons of growth, change, patient memories, team milestones, and everyday moments that made Sea Smiles what it is today.

We are so grateful for the care, loyalty, humor, and heart she has shared with our patients, families, and team over the years.

She has made a lasting impact here, and we will miss having her in the office more than we can say.

Danyelle, we are cheering you on as you begin this new adventure working from home. Thank you for everything you have given to Sea Smiles. We love you and wish you the very best.

Kids can seem to grow overnight, and their smiles can change just as quickly.

Adult teeth may start coming in, spacing can shift, baby teeth may hang on longer than expected, or crowding can become more noticeable. Sometimes those changes are a normal part of development. Other times, they are worth checking so you know whether to watch, treat, or plan ahead.

This is especially helpful when parents notice something new in photos, while their child is brushing, or when teeth do not seem to be lining up the way they used to.

If your child’s smile is changing and you are not sure what is normal, call the office and we will help you schedule the right visit.

School mornings are busy enough without a missing retainer.

As your child gets back into the school routine, make the retainer case part of the daily checklist.

Retainers should not be wrapped in napkins, tossed into backpacks, or placed loose on a lunch tray. That is usually how they end up lost, cracked, or accidentally thrown away.

A simple habit can save a lot of stress: retainer out, case open, retainer in the case.

Every time.

If your child’s retainer is missing, broken, or no longer fitting well, do not wait until teeth start shifting. Call the office and we will help you figure out what needs to happen next.

Before braces go on, it helps to make sure the mouth is healthy and ready.

That means checking for cavities, gum irritation, brushing challenges, and any areas that may need attention before orthodontic treatment begins.

Braces can make cleaning around teeth more detailed, so starting with a strong foundation makes the process smoother for your child and easier for your family.

This is where pediatric dentistry and orthodontics work really well together. Dr. Mike can help make sure your child’s teeth and gums are healthy, and Dr. Ashley can focus on the bite, spacing, and orthodontic plan.

If braces may be coming soon, call the office and ask what visit should happen first. We will help you get the right appointment on the calendar.

A quick note for our Sea Smiles families.

Patient care will be closed on Wednesday, August 12 for the first day back at school.
We know that first day is a big one for so many families, including members of our own team. We are giving everyone space to get kids dropped off, settle into new routines, and start the school year well.

If you need to schedule or adjust an appointment, please call the office before August 12 or leave us a message and our team will follow up when patient care resumes.

Danyelle and her son have been spending part of their summer out on the golf course at Glen Lakes Golf Club.

There is something so sweet about summer hobbies that give families time outside, time together, and maybe a little friendly competition too. Golf days with kids may not always be quiet, but they definitely make good memories.

We love seeing what our Sea Smiles team has been up to outside the office this summer.

A toothache does not always look like a child saying, “My tooth hurts.”

Sometimes it looks like trouble eating lunch, avoiding one side of the mouth, being extra quiet, complaining about cold water, or having a hard time settling because something feels uncomfortable. Dental pain, sensitivity, loose teeth, cavities, and orthodontic irritation can all become distractions during the school day.

As kids head back into school routines, it is a good time to pay attention to anything they mentioned over the summer but never quite explained clearly. A quick check can help catch small problems before they become bigger interruptions.

If your child has been complaining about their teeth, gums, bite, or braces, give the office a call and we can help you decide what type of visit makes sense.

A good school-year routine starts before your child walks out the door.

Brushing before school, packing water, keeping a retainer case in the backpack, and telling an adult when something hurts are all small habits that support a healthier smile during the day.

None of it has to be complicated. It just needs to be consistent.

For younger kids, parents may still need to help with brushing, especially at night. For older kids and teens, the challenge is usually staying consistent when practices, homework, friends, and activities take over.

If your family is trying to reset routines before school starts, bring your questions to your next visit. Our team can help with tips that fit your child’s age, stage, and schedule.

Raven and Hayden have been making the most of summer with a trip to OWA and Pelican’s SnoBalls.

That feels like a pretty perfect summer combination: rides, treats, and time together before the school routine starts back.

These little outings are often the things kids remember most, and we love getting to share a peek at Raven and Hayden’s summer fun.

Here’s to the last stretch of summer and all the memories being made before backpacks come back out.
