Patient presents to the office with a chief complaint that her lower left molar hurting whenever he bites down on something. She reports eating peanuts everyday for many years. As you can see from the pictures, there are cracks in the tooth. Recommended the patient to crown the tooth before the tooth splits more. Upon the crown preparation, a fracture line was noted and circled in red. Hard diets over a long span of time will cause wear and tear on your teeth.

The treatment was to extract the tooth, place bone graft, and then an implant. External root resorption is when the body’s own immune system dissolves the tooth root structure. Acid reflux has eroded this tooth near to the nerve. The tooth was restored with an indirect pulp cap and composite resin to help protect it from further damage. The patient was told to see his P*P to help resolve his GERD. If left untreated, the tooth would have been in pain and would have needed a root canal treatment.
