🤯Wow! What a week for us! Here we have THREE different patients all dealing with the same problem, an untreated frenum.
Untreated childhood frenulum issues don’t just “go away.”
That thick band of tissue under the upper lip (the labial frenum) is normal when we’re little. But when it attaches too low or is overly restrictive, it can keep the two front teeth from coming together—creating a gap that often sticks around into adulthood.
What can happen if a frenectomy isn’t done as a child:
• The gap often remains even after braces or aligners, because the frenum keeps pulling the teeth apart.
• Orthodontic relapse is more common—the space can reopen after treatment.
• Gum health risks increase: a high or tight frenum can tug on the gum tissue, contributing to recession or making it harder to keep the area clean.
• Aesthetic and functional effects may include limited lip mobility, speech nuances, or simply ongoing self-consciousness about the smile.
A simple frenectomy (removing or releasing that restrictive tissue) is often recommended in childhood for exactly these reasons. When it’s missed, adults can still address it—sometimes combined with orthodontics or restorative work—but early intervention is usually easier and more predictable.
If you (or your child) have a prominent frenum and a stubborn gap, it’s worth a conversation with your dentist or orthodontist. Early evaluation can prevent years of frustration later.

😱 Before & After Dental Cleaning Transformation!
Take a close look at this before photo 👆
• Heavy plaque and tartar buildup along the gumline
• Yellow, stained teeth
• Inflamed gums
• That uncomfortable “dirty” feeling
This is what many patients’ teeth look like before their professional cleaning — even if they brush twice a day!
After a thorough dental cleaning, here’s what you can expect:
• Bright, polished teeth that look and feel noticeably cleaner
• Removal of years of built-up tartar and stains
• Healthier, pinker gums with less bleeding and inflammation
• Fresher breath that lasts
• A smooth, slick tooth surface that’s easier to keep clean at home
• Reduced risk of cavities, gum disease, and other dental problems

Did you know a decaying baby tooth can actually stain the permanent tooth growing underneath? 😲
When a baby (primary) tooth gets a bad cavity and it’s left untreated, the infection or bacteria can create an acidic environment around the developing adult tooth bud. This can lead to permanent discoloration, spots, or even malformations on the new tooth before it even erupts!
It’s not just ‘baby teeth fall out anyway’ — their health sets the stage for a lifetime of smiles.
Early dental check-ups + good brushing habits can prevent this. If you spot dark spots, holes, or pain in your little one’s baby teeth, see a pediatric dentist ASAP!
Protect those tiny teeth today for brighter adult smiles tomorrow. 💙🦷
