Today was a wonderful day! Dr. Hurst spent her morning at Fairview High School awarding the fifth recipient of the scholarship she started in memory of her grandmother, “The Eveline Warchol Health Science Scholarship”. Grandma Evie was an incredible operating room RN with a storied career at Hamot hospital. Trained by Dr. George D’Angelo, she participated in some of the most advanced and life saving heart surgeries in our area. Widowed at a young age, her RN degree allowed her to provide for her 3 young children and raise them in a stable middle class home as a widow. She encouraged all of her loved ones to better themselves with education and is specifically one of the most powerful reasons that Dr. Hurst pursued her graduate degree in dentistry. Our hope is that her story will continue to inspire the next generation of young people to better themselves and the community by pursuing an education in the health sciences.
