Our mission is to honor God by providing excellent dental care in a warm, caring and nurturing environment provided by a friendly, kind and well trained team so that our patients can enjoy great health, great teeth and a better quality of life. Understanding that the health of our mouths directly impacts the health of the rest of our bodies, we look deeper at what causes dental disease rather than simply treating a dental disease. Therefore we are committed to preventing dental problems so that our patients can be healthier tomorrow than they are today. We are committed to understanding each patient so we can coach them to help achieve their goals for a lifetime. One of our goals is to help our patients need the least amount of dentistry possible over the rest of their lives. Believing that “usual and customary dentistry” is not good enough for our patients, we focus on minimally invasive techniques to do all the things a dentist can do to make teeth comfortable, stable, and maintainably healthy, all while achieving the very best esthetics possible. BIOLOGIC DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT OF TMJ DISORDERS
Over the years, I developed a special interest in helping patients who suffer from TMJ disorders, bite problems, muscle pain, facial pain, headache pain, and a jaw system that is simply dis-functional. Patients who have this condition usually suffer from a tremendous amount of pain and debilitating symptoms and have a hard time finding the right treatment. I wanted to be able to better help my patients and I wanted to be able to do more for them to bring health, wellness, and vitality back to their life. As a lifelong learner I believe strongly in continuing education, and I have made it a priority to invest and attain advanced training in my profession. I’m fully committed to increasing my knowledge and enhancing my skills in this specialized area of dentistry. In 2019, I began the journey to further advance my skills in the “Diagnosis” and “Treatment” of complex patient cases involving degenerating chewing systems using Bioesthetic Principles, and began training at the OBI (Oral Bioesthetics International) Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry, which focuses on complete dental restorative treatment for patients who have (TMJ) temporomandibular joint issues. I have completed all 4 levels of training at the OBI Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry and during that time I had the privilege of studying under Doctors Michael Edwards, Christina Sletten, William Gerace, David MacClean and Richard Christensen. My course work included applying the principles of Bioesthetic Dentistry to actual patients, before and after photography, case organization, and presentation. All the participating doctors in my courses, follow each case through the diagnostic process and all phases of treatment giving everyone an exponential learning experience. The advanced technical ability to provide Bioesthetic Dentistry after achieving Level 4 at the OBI Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry is shared by less than 500 dentists worldwide. I’m truly excited about the new opportunities from achieving the Level 4 training curriculum at the OBI Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry, and look forward to treating complex patient cases involving degenerating chewing systems and creating beautiful new teeth that function properly and look amazing.

Why I Became a Dentist – or more importantly, since I am free to choose, why do I continue to be a Dentist?

From a young age I wanted to do something worthwhile that would help people. I had two dentists as a child and they were both kind and gentle men; I wanted to be like them. In addition, being healthy and feeling good about yourself are two things that are vitally important; if we are not healthy then we simply are not free to be the best that God intended us to be.

Likewise, having a great looking smile goes along with feeling good about yourself, so the combination of these things was obvious to me: become a Dental Health Coach since great teeth make for a better life.

Mom was a nurse and Dad was a university administrator. I grew up in Athens, Ohio and attended Ohio University, where I met my future wife, Charlotte. After graduating from Emory University School of Dentistry in Atlanta in 1983, we settled in Ohio to be closer to our families.

After being mentored by another dentist for several years, I bought my practice in Fairfield and have been serving people from Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky ever since.

1993 brought about a crossroad in my life: a fire totally destroyed my office. The question came up as to whether I should rebuild the practice and continue practicing dentistry or should I take the opportunity to change careers? After a great deal of soul-searching and praying, God clearly confirmed for me that his intention for me is to be the finest dentist I can be in order to help serve his people.

There it was again, only this time it was a bit more intentional than when I was a youngster: become a Dental Health Coach since great teeth make for a better, healthier life.

So actually, dentistry is not just in my mind or my hands; it’s clearly in my heart. Since that event in 1993, dentistry has not been my job. It has not been my vocation. Rather, it is my calling.

A Special Interest in Treating TMJ Disorder:
Over the years, I developed a special interest in helping patients who suffer from TMJ disorders, bite problems, muscle pain, facial pain, headache pain, and a jaw system that is simply dis-functional. I wanted to be able to better help my patients and I wanted to be able to do more for them to bring health, wellness, and vitality back to their life. As a lifelong learner I believe strongly in continuing education.

In 2017, I began the journey to further advance my skills in the “Diagnosis” and “Treatment” of complex patient cases involving degenerating chewing systems using Bioesthetic Principles, and began training at the OBI (Orognathic Bioesthetics International) Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry, which focuses on complete dental restorative treatment for patients who have (TMJ) temporomandibular joint issues.

I have completed all 4 levels of training at the OBI Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry. The advanced technical ability to provide Bioesthetic Dentistry after achieving Level IV at the OBI Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry is shared by less than 500 dentists worldwide.

I’m truly excited about the new opportunities from achieving the Level IV training curriculum and look forward to treating complex patient cases involving degenerating chewing systems and creating beautiful new teeth that function properly and look amazing.

My team and I are committed to providing exceptional biologic dental care in Fairfield, Ohio and the surrounding areas. We empower our patients with information about their dental health and wellness.

If you or someone you know is looking for a new dental team that’s truly passionate about its patient’s health and well-being, I encourage you to contact my office at (513) 829-2026 and schedule an appointment with me.

Practicing dentistry is an amazing privilege. I’m humbled by the trust my patients place in me to care for their oral health. At my Fairfield, Ohio dental practice, we focus on health-centered patient care, treating the whole person, not just dental symptoms. I firmly believe that maintaining good oral health is key to preventing systemic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and even neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s.

Oral health isn’t just about your teeth; it affects your entire body. Research has shown that harmful bacteria in the mouth can lead to serious health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, stroke, and pregnancy complications. Thankfully, we have advanced tools like the HR5 High-Risk Pathogen Test to help us detect and target the harmful bacteria that could be putting your health at risk.

That being said, there are some “bad guys” that you should be aware of. Scientists can now name the top five most dangerous species of oral bacteria that are the most pathogenic and likely to cause systemic diseases.

Together, these five species of bacteria (Aa, Pg, Tf, Td, Fn) are known collectively as the “Red Complex bacteria plus Fn.” Detecting these bacteria early through a simple saliva test can prevent major health complications down the road. In our practice, patient well-being is at the core of everything we do.

My team and I approach each patient with empathy, taking the time to understand your full health picture, not just what’s happening in your mouth. We believe that prevention is the best cure, and the HR5 Test is a powerful tool in helping us protect your overall health by addressing potential problems before they escalate.

The process for HR5 testing is simple, quick, and painless. After a brief discussion of your medical and dental history, we collect a small saliva sample. The sample is then sent to our partner lab, and within 48 hours, we’ll review the results together. This test provides us with highly accurate information that enables us to create a customized treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs.

The benefits of HR5 testing are profound. Not only does it allow us to detect harmful bacteria early, but it also helps us ensure precise and effective treatment. By knowing exactly which bacteria are present, we can take a targeted approach to care, preventing more invasive and costly procedures in the future.

One of the things I’m most proud of is offering this advanced diagnostic tool to my patients at an affordable cost. I know that dentistry can sometimes feel overwhelming in terms of both time and finances, but the HR5 Test is a preventive measure that could save you from more extensive, and expensive, treatments later on, such as dentures or full mouth reconstruction.

At the end of the day, my goal is to help my patients achieve not just good dental health but holistic wellness.

I’m excited to be able to offer innovative care that empowers you to take control of your health, and I’m deeply grateful to be a part of that journey.

If you’d like to learn more about HR5 Testing or schedule an appointment, call my office at (513) 829-2026. Together, we can create a plan that protects your oral health and supports your overall well-being.

We specialize in Minimally-Invasive Holistic & Biologic Dentistry, TMJ/TMD Therapy & Facial Pain Relief, BioRejuvenation Dentistry, Master Planning, and so much more. 🌿😌

If you're someone struggling with jaw discomfort, headaches, facial tension, or bite issues, I want you to know, you are not alone. I have a special place in my heart for patients suffering from TMJ disorders. One of the most effective treatments we offer is called MAGO Splint Therapy, a non-surgical, non-invasive approach that has helped many find long-awaited relief and stability. MAGO stands for Maxillary Anterior Guided Orthotic, and it’s custom-designed to let your jaw heal and function properly.

Helping patients restore comfort and function through Bioesthetic principles has become a central part of my life’s work. In 2017, I began a deep-dive into advanced TMJ and restorative training with the OBI Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry. It was an incredible journey, one that challenged me, inspired me, and blessed me with lifelong mentors and friendships. 🙌🧠

I’m humbled to be a Level 4 Graduate of the OBI Foundation, an honor held by fewer than 500 dentists worldwide. Don’t Let TMJ Pain Ruin Your Summer Fun—Let’s Find Relief Together!

Greetings, I’m Dr. Howard Dean, and I’ve been honored to serve patients in Fairfield and the surrounding areas since 1983. For over four decades, I’ve focused on diagnosing and treating the root causes of TMJ disorder—because I’ve seen firsthand how deeply this painful condition can affect your life.

Summer is a time for family outings, backyard barbecues, and time outdoors—but if you’re living with TMJ pain, even simple joys like eating, laughing, or sleeping can feel like a challenge. If that sounds familiar, I want you to know: you don’t have to suffer through it. I’m here to help.

At my practice, I start every bite analysis with the TMJs because the health of your jaw joints affects everything else. If the TMJs aren’t stable, the bite will continue to shift—and that’s why getting to the root of the issue matters so much.

One of the most effective treatments I offer is MAGO Splint Therapy—a non-invasive, non-surgical approach to stabilizing the jaw. MAGO stands for Maxillary Anterior Guided Orthotic, a custom-made splint that allows your jaw joints to function properly while reducing stress and pain in your chewing muscles.

This therapy provides more than just relief—it gives us insight into your entire chewing system and lays the foundation for long-term healing. Once your TMJs are stable, many patients feel a dramatic improvement in their symptoms. From there, we can address any restorative needs to prevent the problem from returning.

My goal is to help you reclaim comfort, function, and quality of life. I’ve developed a comprehensive approach to treating TMJ and facial pain, and I’d be honored to be part of your healing journey.

If you're in Fairfield, West Chester, Hamilton, Cincinnati, Dayton, or beyond, call my office today to schedule a consultation. Let’s make this summer one to smile about—pain free.

With gratitude,
Dr. Howard Dean, DDS

Master Planning for Optimal Dental Health & a Better Life!
Hello, I’m Dr. Howard B. Dean, D.D.S. and I’d like to share one of the concepts that I believe has helped a great deal in allowing my patients to succeed and achieve their wellness goals. That concept is Master Planning. Below, I’ve described how Master Planning can lead to better dental health and a happier, more fulfilling life.

My Training & Experience as a Dental Health Coach:
First, here’s some information about my training and experience as a Dental Health Coach and what inspired me to start using Master Planning as a core focus of my practice.

I graduated from the Emory University School of Dentistry in Atlanta in 1983 and since then have participated in ongoing training and education throughout my career. I am a Level Four Graduate of the OBI (Orognathic Bioesthetics International) Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry, a level of expertise that is shared by less than 500 dentists worldwide.

During my time studying at the OBI Foundation, I learned about treating degenerating chewing systems using Bioesthetic Principles. Bioesthetic Dentistry is a holistic approach that aims to improve a patient’s overall wellness by focusing on the biological issues affecting their dental health.

Since then, I have made the decision to focus my practice on providing holistically oriented, Biologic Dentistry. Master Planning is a key part of my methodology. I have witnessed firsthand the difference that Biologic Dentistry and Master Planning can make in someone’s life and how it leads to better health, vitality, and happiness.

What Is Master Planning?
Master Planning is a strategy that I use to help my patients lead a better quality of life. As with all goals, it’s important to have a plan and your dental health is no different. Without a plan, that goal is nothing more than a wish or a dream. A plan allows you to take actionable steps towards making your goals a reality.

When it comes to your dental health, it’s important to sit down and spend some time planning. Talking with my team and I about your aspirations, desires, and concerns helps us get to know you and understand what you want to achieve. It also gives us the opportunity to explain how we can help and what steps we can take to improve your dental health.

For us, performing the dentistry is the easy part; we’ve had years and years of practice. But making sure you get what you want requires deeper knowledge and understanding of your unique situation. This information cannot be found in any textbook or college course. It must come from you directly. That’s where Master Planning fills the gaps - it is a plan based on your unique, individualized goals.

How Does It Work?
First, we’ll set aside some time to talk about your goals and create a Master Plan. Your plan will be specifically tailored to your needs and designed to help you achieve your unique goals.

Once you have a plan, then we can create a timeline. We can either phase it out over time to keep it within your budget or help you find ways to take care of it up front so you can have your dentistry done all at once.

My goal is to provide you with results that are not only satisfactory, but also long-lasting. I want you to need as little dentistry as possible in the future or, better yet, no dentistry at all. Therefore, we will discuss preventative strategies as part of your plan, and how we can prevent cavities and gum infections in the future. We want to predict disease before it occurs and, whenever possible, completely prevent it from happening again.

The Three Phases of a Master Plan:
All Master Plans have three phases, which include:
1. Addressing urgent needs: We put out the fires and address any urgent issues that need to be taken care of. Our goal in this phase is to restore your comfort and stabilize your health.

2. Making improvements: Next, we work on restoring your health. In other words, we rebuild what the fire has destroyed. This includes tending to any failed fillings, gum infections, cavities, etc.

3. Focusing on your goals: Once all of the damage has been tended to, we shift the focus to your unique concerns and long-term goals. My goal is to make sure the fire never comes back.

Master Planning is all about doing what’s best for you, in a holistically-oriented way, from your finances to your health. We will work with you to develop a plan for reaching your goals… at your pace… within your budget.

Learn More about Master Planning:
If you are interested in learning more about Master Planning or would like to discuss your dental health concerns in detail, please contact my office at (513) 829-2026 to schedule an appointment.

04/11/2025

When was the last time you had a conversation with your Dentist about oral cancer screening? Oral cancer is more common than many people realize.

According to the American Cancer Society, the “lifetime risk of developing oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer is about 1 in 59 for men and 1 in 139 for women.” In 2024 alone, there were over 58,000 new cases of oral cavity and oral pharyngeal cancer reported in the United States.

That’s why April has been officially designated as Oral Cancer Awareness Month! Oral Cancer Awareness Month is observed annually to promote public awareness about oral cancer, its risks, symptoms, and the importance of early detection through screening.

Procedures like HR5 Saliva Pathogen Testing can help considerably with identifying and targeting oral cancer pathogens early on before the disease progresses to a more advanced stage. In fact, oral cancer screening could save your life!

Oral Cancer Awareness Month: Everything You Need to Know:
Oral Cancer Awareness Month, recognized every April, is an initiative focused on educating the public about oral cancer. This campaign emphasizes the significance of understanding risk factors such as to***co use, heavy alcohol consumption, and HPV. It advocates for regular dental check-ups that include oral cancer screenings, highlighting the potential for early detection to significantly improve treatment outcomes.

What Happens During Oral Cancer Awareness Month?
Through various platforms, including social media, community events, and healthcare settings, Oral Cancer Awareness Month mobilizes resources and expertise to spread information, encourage preventive practices, and support those affected by oral cancer.

Why Oral Cancer Awareness Is Important:
Oral cancer can be fatal if left untreated. Last year, in 2024, there were about 12,230 deaths that occurred as a result of oral cavity or oropharyngeal cancer.

How Oral Cancer Screening Protects Your Health:
Oral cancer screening is a preventive health measure that involves examining the mouth for signs of cancer or precancerous conditions. Identifying issues early on while they’re less severe significantly increases the chances of successful treatment.

Why I Recommend HR5 Saliva Pathogen Testing:
The method that I use for oral cancer screening is called the HR5 High-Risk Pathogen Test. This is a minimally invasive, advanced oral pathogen test that can be used to assess your oral bacteria profile.
Using HR5 Testing, my team and I can take a sample of your saliva and determine whether pathogenic bacteria are present and above threshold levels. Then, we can create a highly customized treatment plan that allows us to target the bacteria we’re concerned with and keep them at a lower, safer level.

In this manner, HR5 Saliva Pathogen Testing can significantly reduce your risk of developing aggressive oral cancer and protect your overall health.

Schedule an Appointment for Oral Cancer Screening:
Oral Cancer Awareness Month is the perfect opportunity to check in with your dental team and schedule an appointment for oral cancer screening. Call my office at (513) 829-2026 to speak to one of our friendly staff members or learn more about the benefits of HR5 Saliva Pathogen Testing in Fairfield, Ohio.

Wishing You the Best Health,
Dr. Howard B. Dean, DDS

03/15/2025

As winter lingers, so do sinus issues. Stuffy noses, lingering congestion, and sinus infections seem to persist, making it difficult to feel your best. While many associate sinus problems with spring allergies, wintertime can be just as troublesome due to dry indoor air, lingering colds, and environmental irritants. Now is the perfect time for a pre-spring sinus cleanse to ensure you’re breathing clearly before allergy season arrives.

It’s often said that there are no sinuses without infection. With that in mind, establishing a routine for sinus care can serve as both a preventive measure and an effective response to active infections. Here’s a simple yet powerful protocol to help refresh your sinuses and support your overall respiratory health.

Essential Sinus Support Ingredients:
Xylitol – Nature’s Bacteria Fighter - Xylitol is a natural sugar derived from birch trees and various plants. Unlike traditional sugars, bacteria that absorb xylitol die off, making it a valuable tool in sinus health. When introduced to the sinuses, xylitol helps to eliminate harmful bacteria, promoting a cleaner nasal environment. However, to maintain the balance of gut-friendly bacteria, it’s best not to swallow xylitol in large amounts.

Reduced L-Glutathione – The Master Antioxidant - L-Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant composed of naturally occurring amino acids (glycine, glutamic acid, and cysteine). Studies suggest that when glutathione comes into contact with oral and nasal tissues, it stimulates the body to produce more of its own glutathione, enhancing immune response. This antioxidant plays a crucial role in preventing viruses from spreading within the body and may also help keep cancer cells in check. Be sure to purchase the reduced form of glutathione, as it is the most effective. Most standard health food stores may not carry it, so sourcing it from reputable supplement suppliers is advised.

Spring-Ready Sinus Cleaning Routine:
To keep your sinuses fresh and clear before spring allergies strike, follow this easy daily nasal rinse routine:

1. Prepare the Solution:
o Mix ¼ teaspoon of xylitol and the contents of one 150 mg capsule of reduced L-glutathione with enough water to fill ¾ of a clean, empty nasal spray bottle.
o Prepare a fresh batch daily, as the solution is most effective within 24 hours.

2. Application:
o Blow your nose to clear out any existing congestion.
o Spray the solution into each nostril and inhale deeply, ensuring the mixture reaches deep into the sinuses.
o Blow your nose again and repeat the process.

3. Frequency:
o If dealing with an active sinus infection, use the spray twice daily (morning and evening).
o For preventive care, use two to three times per week to maintain clear and healthy sinuses.

Why Start Now?
Spring brings beautiful blooms, but it also introduces pollen, mold spores, and increased allergens that can trigger sinus issues. By implementing a sinus-cleaning routine before allergy season kicks in, you can reduce the buildup of bacteria, allergens, and mucus, making it easier to breathe and reducing the risk of infections.

Your Health, Your Choice:
As always, use good judgment when it comes to your health. If you have underlying medical concerns or persistent sinus problems, consult your physician before starting any new routine.

If you’re looking for a caring and knowledgeable dental team, we’re here to help! While our office is based in Fairfield, we welcome patients from West Chester, Hamilton, Cincinnati, Dayton, and beyond.

Contact us at (513) 829-2026 to schedule an appointment.

Here’s to a breath of fresh air this spring!

02/10/2025

Protect Your Smile and Health: HR5 Testing for National Gum Disease Awareness Month. Did you know that gum disease affects nearly half of adults over the age of 30 in the U.S.? February is National Gum Disease Awareness Month, the perfect time to spotlight the importance of oral health and how simple preventive measures can protect not just your smile, but your overall well-being.

At my Fairfield, Ohio dental practice, we’re committed to health-centered patient care, treating the whole person—not just dental symptoms. Gum disease isn’t just a dental issue; it’s a systemic health concern linked to conditions like heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and even Alzheimer's. Fortunately, there's a powerful tool to help in early detection: the HR5 High-Risk Pathogen Test.

What is the HR5 High-Risk Pathogen Test?
The HR5 Test is a quick, non-invasive saliva test designed to identify harmful bacteria in your mouth that contribute to gum disease and systemic health problems. Scientists have identified the top five most dangerous oral bacteria species—known as the "Red Complex bacteria plus Fn" (Aa, Pg, Tf, Td, Fn)—which are linked to both advanced gum disease and serious health conditions.

Early detection of these bacteria through HR5 testing can prevent the progression of gum disease and reduce the risk of related health issues. This simple test empowers both you and your dental care team to take proactive steps for your health.

Why It Matters:
Oral health is the gateway to overall health. Harmful bacteria in your mouth can enter your bloodstream, leading to inflammation and contributing to chronic diseases. By identifying these pathogens early, we can create targeted treatment plans, minimizing the need for more invasive, costly procedures down the line.

How the HR5 Test Works:

1. Simple & Painless: A quick saliva sample is collected during your visit.

2. Fast Results: The sample is sent to our partner lab, and we receive detailed results within 48 hours.

3. Personalized Care: We review the results with you and develop a customized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

The Benefits of HR5 Testing:

• Early Detection: Identifies harmful bacteria before symptoms appear.

• Targeted Treatment: Allows for precise, effective care.

• Cost-Effective: Prevents the need for expensive, invasive procedures in the future.

• Whole-Body Health: Reduces risks associated with heart disease, diabetes, and more.

Take Control of Your Health:
National Gum Disease Awareness Month is a reminder that prevention is key. The HR5 Test is an affordable, advanced diagnostic tool that helps protect not only your oral health but your entire body.

Schedule your HR5 High-Risk Pathogen Test today by calling (513) 829-2026.

Let’s work together to safeguard your health, one smile at a time.

Living Your Best 2025: A Master Plan for Health and Fulfillment!
Hello, I’m Dr. Howard B. Dean, DDS and a brand new year is well underway. I'd like to share how creating a Master Plan can help you achieve your dental health goals in 2025—and ultimately, contribute to a healthier, more fulfilling life.

Every great achievement starts with a plan. Whether it’s advancing your career, nurturing relationships, improving finances, building fitness, or mastering a hobby, reaching your goals takes intention and action. Think of it like a journey: you need a clear destination and a reliable map to guide your steps.

The same principle applies to your dental health and overall wellness. If you want to enhance your smile, alleviate discomfort, or improve your oral health, it won’t happen by chance. You need a strategy—a roadmap to success. That’s where a Master Plan comes in.

What is a Master Plan?
A Master Plan is more than a checklist or a set of appointments. It’s a personalized, comprehensive guide tailored specifically to you. It considers your unique values, aspirations, financial situation, current health, and lifestyle to outline actionable steps toward your goals.

Unlike traditional dentistry, which often takes a one-size-fits-all approach, a Master Plan focuses on you as an individual. It’s about putting your needs, desires, and overall wellness at the forefront. With this customized strategy, your dental health becomes part of a bigger picture—a vital component of living a healthier, more vibrant life.

Why Make 2025 the Year of Your Master Plan?
There’s no better time to prioritize your health and well-being than now. In 2025, make it your mission to embrace a holistic approach to wellness, starting with your dental health. Here’s how a Master Plan can help you:

1. Clarity: Define clear, actionable goals for your dental health. Whether it’s achieving a brighter smile, fixing a persistent issue, or maintaining great oral hygiene, a Master Plan lays out your path to success.

2. Personalization: Your life, your goals, your plan. Every detail is tailored to align with your individual priorities and circumstances.

3. Consistency: Small, consistent actions lead to big results. With a Master Plan, you’ll have a step-by-step guide to stay on track and see measurable progress.

4. Overall Health Benefits: Dental health is closely linked to your overall well-being. A healthier smile can improve your confidence, reduce risks of systemic health issues, and enhance your quality of life.
