Going through all the feels right now 🥹 Just dropped our oldest, Charlie, off at kindergarten for his first day.
Parenthood, for me, has always felt like this dichotomy between wanting them to grow up big and strong and live a long, wonderful life, while simultaneously wanting them to stay small forever. One of the MANY reasons I chose orthodontics as a career path was because it allowed me to work part-time and spend some days with my children during these precious, magical years.
And now, he starts full-time school, and I am already missing this time with him. Watching him walk into that school so confidently while I walked away with tears in my eyes was one of those moments I know I’ll never forget. 🥹
This morning, to make me feel better, he said, “I’m still going to sleep here.” 😂 And I think Charlie was feeling a little bit of that dichotomy of his own… After telling us he wanted to be a basketball player, he suddenly changed his mind and said, “No, I want to be a dentist so I can work with you.” 😭❤️ (He’s never ever said this before haha).
Good thing Will was born this year, so he is stuck with me for the next 5 years and I can make him want to be a dentist too 😉😂
Charlie, you are truly such a special little boy. So inquisitive, intelligent, and kind. Your daddy and I are SO, SO proud of you. We know you are going to do amazing things—basketball player, dentist, or whatever you set your heart out to be—and we feel so lucky that we get to watch you become the person you are meant to be.
Here’s to kindergarten, sweet Charlie. We’ll be cheering you on from the sidelines—always. We love you more than you’ll ever know. ❤️
