Sports drinks can help athletes during long or intense workouts — but they can also be tough on teeth.
Many sports drinks are acidic and contain sugar, which can soften enamel, increase sensitivity, and raise the risk of cavities over time. Add in dehydration and dry mouth during sports, and teeth can become even more vulnerable.
The goal isn’t to avoid sports drinks completely. Just use them wisely.
A few simple tips:
Drink water between sips
Rinse with water after finishing
Avoid sipping sports drinks all day
Wait 30–60 minutes before brushing after acidic drinks
Choose water for shorter workouts when possible
Your teeth are part of your performance system. Protect them like you protect the rest of your body.
