Dentists polled in a study by the ADA have reported seeing a 53.4% increase in cracked teeth over the course of the pandemic. This relates to the 59.4% increase in bruxism (clenching, grinding). Think about a crack in a tooth like when a rock hits a windshield. The crack keeps going, but in a tooth it goes deeper. If a tooth has been bothering you, don’t delay getting it checked out! Anything left untreated for too long becomes a more painful and more expensive to fix. 🦷

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month! We love our little patients and baby teeth are very important, too!

Some tips and tricks to help your little ones prevent cavities- (these can all apply to adults, too!)
- brush 2x daily with fluoridated toothpaste
- spit out excess toothpaste, but don’t rinse! Let the fluoride toothpaste coat those teeth longer
- floss daily, especially if your kiddos teeth touch side to side with no spaces. Cavities can start between teeth and they are very hard to see without X-rays. Everything can look normal to the naked eye!
- limit juice! It is best to stick to milk and water. But if juice is a must, diluting it with water helps
- check the grooves of the teeth to make sure no snacks are stuck! Letting any food sit on teeth too long can form a cavity. (Goldfish/other crackers are sneaky snacks that can cause a lot of cavities this way!)
- regular check ups every 6 months - that way if there is a problem, hopefully it’s just a small problem and not a big deal!

We are happy to announce that the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has now allowed dentists to resume routine care effective today, May 11th.

As per the Governor’s stay at home order, we will resume routine hygiene (cleanings) on Monday, June 1st.

For the rest of May, we are going to focus on helping patients who are mid-treatment and who have urgent treatment needs. Please call if you would like to make an appointment! If you have already called, we will be getting back to you shortly! Thank you so much for your patience during this time!

We are dentists because we love what we do. Over the past few weeks, we have missed our jobs because we have missed our patients. We miss hearing what you, your kids, and your grandkids are up to. We miss taking care of you, whether it be checking your newly cleaned teeth or helping to fix something to make it work like new again. During this unprecedented time, Oak Ridge Family Dental will remain closed for routine procedures through the end of April as mandated by the Illinois Stay-at-Home order. We would like to remind you that we are still open for true emergencies! Please call us rather than going to an emergency room. Also, don’t hesitate to call if you are unsure of what to do. We are happy to help in any way we can that would be safe for everyone. We are all in this together! We hope everyone stays healthy, and we are anxious to get back to normal and see you soon!

To our patients and their families-

At Oak Ridge Family Dental, our top priority has always been the health and safety of our patients and staff. During this time of uncertainty, we wanted to reach out to any current or future patients regarding COVID-19.

The Illinois State Dental Society Board of Trustees is following the lead of Gov. Pritzker by keeping in unison with the restrictions imposed to protect the health and safety of the public and to “flatten the curve”.

Therefore, we will be postponing all non-emergency appointments until April 6th.

If you are having a true dental emergency, please call the office rather than going to an Emergency Room.

These restrictions are in place to protect the public as well as to preserve the limited supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) so it can be used for urgent and more complex medical care that is needed in our healthcare system.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. We look forward to seeing you at your next scheduled appointment.

Before and after Invisalign treatment! Invisalign is a great, conservative way to transform already good looking teeth to a beautiful, perfect smile! Here we widened the arches, uprighted tipped teeth, and made room to straighten the crowded incisors. Loving the result!
