This a very informative diagram of what gingivitis( gum disease) looks like. When the dental hygienist measure your “pockets”, this is the area that we are measuring- 1-3mm is healthy gingival pocket- with no bleeding!
If the pocket is 4 or more mm with bleeding, gum disease is present.
Regular hygiene visits are crucial to remove that calculus and promote healthy gingival pockets!

Dry mouth can increase the risk of cavities and gum disease by reducing the saliva needed to neutralize acids and wash away bacteria. Certain medications, medical conditions, and lifestyle factors can contribute to decreased saliva flow.

Common Causes
Medications: Over 500+ prescription and OTC drugs cause dry mouth, including anti-hypertensives, antidepressants, antihistamines, and decongestants.

Common Symptoms
A dry, sticky, or sticky feeling in the mouth.
Thick, stringy saliva.
Difficulty speaking, chewing, or swallowing.
A dry or itchy throat, hoarse voice, and cracked lips.
An altered sense of taste or a burning sensation.
Bad breath

Let’s talk flossing!
Why do we always ask how often you floss?
