It's not JUST about a pretty smile.....

Porphyromonas gingivalis, the main pathogen that causes chronic periodontitis, can invade the brain, triggering symptoms characteristic of Alzheimer's disease, according to a study published online on May 5 in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.

Happy Friday!

Kriss here....it's been pretty quiet on the dental front lately so I wanted to update you all on what's going on.

First of all, let me say that I'm EXTREMELY PROUD of the way our office has been able to quickly and efficiently treat the many emergencies that have arisen for our patients during these trying and uncertain times. While we do not yet have the go-ahead to return to dental cleanings, things are changing daily now so hopefully we will very very soon.

I would just like to remind EVERYONE - no matter what dental office you are a patient of - despite the fact that the term "routine cleaning" has been tossed around for the past few months - it has been more than proven that dental health directly affects your overall health, and many times patients are alerted to underlying health conditions by their dentist during that "routine" exam and cleaning.

So.. . when offices are open and ready:

1) DO CALL to schedule your oral
health exam and cleaning,
especially if it was postponed
due to the quarantine
2) Be very frank with the person
you speak with - if you have any
questions about what the office
is doing to prevent the spread of
disease, they should be able to
give you answers openly and
honestly!
3) Keep in mind....patience,
kindness and understanding
are the things that are going to
help us all reacclimate smoothly.

To our 4045 West 12th Street patients - THANK YOU for your patience and understanding. We have missed you all, hope you are well, and look forward to seeing you soon!

It's been a very humbling and rewarding experience to be a part of the Dental Lifeline Network for over 20 years. We've met some wonderful people, with the goal of changing their lives through improving their dental health...but somehow each time it's changed us as well.

“Dental sealants have been shown to reduce the risk of decay by nearly 80% in molars. This is especially important when it comes to your child's dental health. In October 2016, the Centers for Disease Control released a report on the importance of sealants for school-aged children, of which only 43% of children ages 6-11 have. According to the CDC, "school-age children without sealants have almost three times more cavities than children with sealants." Source: mouthhealthy.org. The deep grooves you see in these teeth (first photo) are prime spots for bacteria and food particles to buildup and cause decay. The quick and simple process of placing sealants (second photo) on molars and premolars can ward off cavities in the biting surface of those teeth with deep grooves for several years.
