June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month 💜🧠
Did you know your oral health and brain health are more connected than you think?
Research has shown a link between gum disease and cognitive decline, including conditions like Alzheimer’s disease. Chronic inflammation caused by untreated periodontal (gum) disease may contribute to inflammation throughout the body — including the brain.
Bacteria from the mouth can also enter the bloodstream and travel to other areas of the body, which is why maintaining good oral health is about so much more than just your teeth and gums.
Healthy habits that support both oral and brain health include:
🪥 Brushing twice daily
🦷 Flossing every day
📅 Keeping regular dental cleanings and exams
🥗 Eating a balanced, nutrient-rich diet
🚭 Avoiding to***co products
💧 Staying hydrated
For individuals living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, maintaining oral hygiene can become increasingly difficult, making routine dental care and caregiver support especially important.
At our office, we believe oral health is an important part of overall wellness. This month, we encourage everyone to take care of both their smile and their mind. 💜
