We count our blessings today, as the year comes to an end. As always we are grateful firstly for all the people we have met to this day. We are very grateful for our 4 wonderful children, who we welcomed into the world and had the pleasure of helping and supporting in the path to become the adults they are today (even though they will always be children to us). We are grateful for our friends, the people that know us best and share with us the successes and frustrations of life. Your presence always brings us serenity and strength. To our patients that entrust us with your care, thank you. You are family to us and we hope to be a part of your life for many years to come. We are thankful for the comforts and conveniences of life, and to the people that make it possible as a modern miracle. And above all, we thank the Lord our God for the gift of life, and for the privilege of experiencing the joys and challenges of His creation, and to be able to partake of the gifts bestowed upon us and the world.

We wish you a Happy Thanksgiving, and a wonderful Holiday season.

Ricardo and Fabia.

We are living in difficult times. There is no question about it. Ongoing COVID pandemic, threats of violence, societal unrest, clash of philosophies, ways of life, and countries. Technology is making our lives easier, healthier, safer, and more convenient. On the other hand, it’s also making us so dependent on the little devices we carry with us that we are getting more anxious, depressed, and numb. How do we achieve balance? CAN we achieve balance?
Still I believe that we are privileged to be living in these times. All challenges are questions, that require answers, and the answers that we find to those questions could teach us much about ourselves. Self-knowledge is a powerful tool for growth, but growth can be painful because we may not like the answers that we may get. The opportunity these challenges bring is at the same time exhilarating, and dreadful. We cannot find those answers on our own. We need each other to find them together , we need to talk, discuss, and listen. This is all an act of love, and in my opinion, anything done lovingly is profitable. Our time here is short, and we need to make it count for the ones that come after us, so that we can march toward a more compassionate, truthful, loving world.
As for you, my patients and friends that God has placed in my company for short precious minutes of our time, I am truly blessed for the time that I get to meet you, know you, hear your stories, share mine, be of service to you and your family, and be able to find truth and love through you. For this I will always be thankful.
Happy Thanksgiving.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Phillipians 4: 6-7

The year is coming to an end, and as always we stop and reflect of all the things to be thankful for. It is no easy task considering what kind of year this has been. We’ve all experienced unprecedented challenges, frustrations, and heartaches that we've never thought we would have to deal with in our lifetimes. The threats of disease and violence, of wars and death. Changes in the world that we used to know.
During this pandemic, we were faced by an unknown disease that had no established treatment. Many of us got sick, and some lost their lives. Many businesses had to close their doors, some permanently. We couldn’t see our loved ones, especially the elderly. International relations were damaged. Fires devastated several areas of our country, with families losing their homes and their livelihoods. Large swaths of our forests disappeared. It may take a long time for all of that to recover.
It would appear that there is nothing to be thankful for, but even in disaster, there are positives. Change comes whether we like it or not, and many times change brings us out of our comfort zones and it is usually not pretty. As long as we realize that it is how we react to change that creates pain and sorrow, then we are able to adjust, adapt, and succeed.
These setbacks all brought us out of the stupor of our daily lives, and we started paying more attention to those around us. Everyone has been affected, and we clearly see the plight of others. We became closer to family, to friends, and many of us decided that there is no time to lose to be with them. We started appreciating the little things a bit more: a walk in the neighborhood, a short bike ride, chasing the sunset behind the mountains, sharing a meal, watching the dogs darting around and playing in the park, the laughter, the tears, and the conversations that we have with each other. We are all different now in those respects, and that is a good thing.
I am thankful for this wonderful wake-up call, for all of you having us in your thoughts during the time we were closed, and thankful that you too made it through the rough of it. We are ready to rebuild. Now it is time to heal, to be patient with each other, to try to understand our differences, and become the best that we can be.

Happy Thanksgiving.

This is usually my favorite time of the year. Lent is over, the weather is getting warmer, plants are starting to bloom and the landscape is getting greener. People are usually out and about on the streets. This year is very different. As I look through my window snow is falling, the ground is covered in white, and there are only a few cars on the street. I can’t tell if the trees are even alive. It doesn’t look like Spring.
These surely are different times, but there is no reason to think that these are bad times. Sometimes fear, and uncertainty cause us to turn to things that we have long forgotten because of our routines, and our busy lives, such as:
Slowing down and watching the world, and the people that live in it,
Spending time with loved ones, listening to each other,
Appreciating the people doing everyday tasks that make our lives better,
Giving thanks for what we have,
Cherishing our life, our freedom, and our shared humanity.
This crisis taught us that any semblance of stability is easily shattered by unforeseeable circumstances. It taught us that even with the best preparations, events like this will happen and change our lives, sometimes permanently. But as I write these lines, I believe that the sun will shine again, nature will reemerge from the cold weather, and display all its beauty in just time.
For us Christians, this day is the most important day of the year. The darkness of death was overcome and the light of God’s Grace shone brighter than ever upon us. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Let us all then rejoice, for now is the time of our rebirth both individually and as a nation. Let us be thankful for the gift of life, and be filled with hope for our future prosperity, one steeped in patience, understanding, and love.
Happy Easter.
