Dental hygienists are often the first line of defense in recognizing changes in periodontal health. Your careful observations can make all the difference in helping patients receive the right care at the right time.

When might it be time for a periodontal evaluation? 👀

🦷 Persistent probing depths, especially 5–6 mm+
🩸 Persistent bleeding on probing
📉 Progressive attachment or bone loss
🔎 Furcation involvement or increasing mobility
🌱 Progressive gingival recession or thin tissue
🦷 Mucogingival or keratinized tissue concerns
⚠️ Bleeding, suppuration, deeper pockets, or bone loss around implants
🦷 Teeth with a questionable periodontal prognosis
