Thanks for the Reminder. 🇺🇸
*
Posting this in words, expressed by
70 + yr old Vietnam Veterans:

For those of us who returned physically unscathed (excluding the mentally instability of the roller coaster emotionally devastating experience of witnessing all the death and destruction),

When we came back from fighting in the Vietnam war,

* We were spat on by American Activists
* We couldn’t get a job because we were blacklisted for serving in the war
* Americans saw us as criminals
* We couldn’t get a job because serving in the U.S. Army, Marines, and other branches did not count as job experience.
* Many of us started living on the streets because not many would hire us.
* Many of us were traumatized and couldn’t focus because of the nightmares, night sweats, and flashbacks of the war we fought.
* Many of us lost our family units because we were reliving our nightmares, and our families couldn’t understand us.
* There was no post trauma psychological help to walk us through our memories.

Yet
The Vietnamese refugees were welcomed with open arms.
They were given free food, free shelter, and free housing.
They were celebrated as survivors while we were condemned as villains.
They were embraced and resettled, while we were abandoned and forgotten.
We wore the uniform of our nation, but our nation turned its back on us.
We fought under the American flag, yet came home to find that flag no longer waved for us.

The point is simple and painful:
American soldiers — sons and daughters of this soil — were discarded, while non-Americans were embraced.

We don’t begrudge anyone seeking safety or freedom.
But we will never forget that, when we came home broken and bleeding, our own country offered no hand, no job, no roof, no gratitude.
We were left to rebuild our lives in silence, while others received what we had been denied.

That is a truth history rarely tells —
and it is one every American should remember.

And yet, despite all of this…
We still stood tall.
We still loved this country that turned its back on us.
We still raised families, found faith again, and tried to rebuild what the war had taken from us.
We still salute the flag — not because it was always fair to us,
but because it still represents the brothers we lost and the ideals we once fought for.

To the younger generations:
Freedom isn’t free. It was bought with the blood, sweat, and broken minds of those who served — even when their own nation refused to stand by them.

So when you see a Vietnam veteran, don’t just say “thank you for your service.”
Understand what that service cost.

We didn’t come home to parades or gratitude.
We came home to rejection, unemployment, and silence.
But we endured.
We survived.
And we will never stop remembering those who didn’t make it back.

God Bless America 🙏🏼
And
God Bless the USA 🇺🇸

Health News:
Long-term cannabis users can develop CHS Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome

What is cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome?

A rare but severe condition, cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome is caused by heavy cannabis use and is "marked by nausea, vomiting and pain," said The New York Times. It can lead in some cases to extreme dehydration, seizures, kidney failure and cardiac arrest. In rare cases, it can lead to death. The syndrome was first documented in 2004.

The onset of CHS tends to affect people "after years of using ma*****na many times a week," per the American College of Gastroenterology. The initial symptoms include nausea, belly pain and persistent vomiting. After about 10 to 12 years of chronic ma*****na use, "patients begin to have a strong feeling of sickness, throwing up and belly pain." Some medical professionals refer to symptoms of CHS as "scromiting," a term that combines "vomiting" and "screaming," said the Cleveland Clinic. Some patients scream while they vomit due to the intense belly pain.

A telltale sign of CHS is that heat often temporarily relieves the condition's symptoms. Hundreds of people told the Times that they spent hours in hot baths and showers. Some were even "burned by scalding water," and one was injured when "in desperation, he pressed his body against a hot car," the outlet said. With there being so little research on the syndrome, experts are not sure why heat soothes the symptoms, "nor why certain chronic ma*****na users develop it and others don't," said the Times. The onset of CHS appears to be related to the way ma*****na interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system, which helps regulate bodily functions like sleep, digestion and pain perception. People with severe CHS symptoms frequently need emergency care.

While the biggest risk factor for CHS is heavy cannabis use, "most people who smoke cannabis daily don't get this," Christopher Andrews, a clinical professor of gastroenterology at the University of Calgary, said to National Geographic. Among those who do, it is not a constant affliction. "It comes and goes and it happens in cycles," Deepak Cyril D'Souza, the director of the Yale Center for the Science of Cannabis and Cannabinoids, said to the outlet. If it continued indefinitely, that would "force a person to stop" using cannabis.

Why might CHS be on the rise?

Without more research, there is no definitive answer, but doctors have linked the increase in CHS cases to widespread legalization, along with higher tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content in modern ma*****na. The commercial industry that blossomed after legalization "touted its products as beneficial" while focusing on "engineering a quicker, more intense high," the Times said. Researchers in a 2024 study published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology compared hospitalizations for CHS at a large hospital in Massachusetts in 2012 and 2021, before and after cannabis was legalized in the state, and found a significant increase in hospitalizations.

In the 1990's, cannabis typically contained about 5% THC. Modern companies have "turned out inconspicuous v**e pens, fast-acting edibles and pre-rolled joints infused with potency enhancers and concentrates" that contain as much as 99% THC. With these new products, hospitals saw influxes of CHS, and researchers called for more public health guidance and education for providers. "Awareness was slow to spread."

Experts say the medical field is woefully behind on understanding the rapidly changing drugs. "There's a difference in legalizing the original cannabis on the planet and the products that exist today," neuroscientist Yasmin Hurd said to the Times. Hurd was the lead author of a 2017 report on the health effects of cannabis from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, which warned that the lack of evidence-based information posed a public health risk.

Until more studies are done on cannabis in all its new forms, putting cannabis "under the umbrella of a safe, legal drug is wrong," she said. "It's misleading at best and dangerous at worst."

Dental Health News:
New research has confirmed that poor oral health, such as cavities and gum disease, can significantly increase the risk of heart disease. Bacteria from mouth infections can enter the bloodstream, leading to inflammation in blood vessels.
Studies have shown that individuals with severe tooth loss have a staggering 66% higher risk of heart-related death.
Brushing, flossing, and regular dental checkups are not just important for maintaining a healthy smile; they also play a crucial role in protecting your heart.

Is Alzheimer’s Hiding in Your Mouth? 🪥

Emerging research has uncovered a surprising connection between gum disease and Alzheimer’s disease. 🧬 Scientists have found that Porphyromonas gingivalis—a harmful bacteria behind chronic gum infections—can travel from your mouth to your brain, triggering inflammation and contributing to the buildup of amyloid plaques and tau tangles linked to memory loss and cognitive decline.

🦠 In fact, peer-reviewed studies show that this oral bacteria and its toxins were discovered in the brains of 90%+ of Alzheimer’s patients studied.

🪥🛡️ The takeaway? Your oral hygiene isn’t just about fresh breath and healthy teeth—it could be protecting your brain.

✅ Prioritize your gum health.
✅ Schedule regular dental cleanings.
✅ Don’t ignore bleeding gums or gum recession.

Your smile may be the first step in defending your memory.

JAMA (Journal of American medical Association ) releases study on elimination of community water fluoridation 5.30.2025| ADA American Dental Association

JAMA releases study on elimination of community water fluoridation

Estimates fluoride removal would cost billions, deteriorate oral health

Removing fluoride from U.S. public water systems would increase tooth decay by 7.5% and cost at least $9.8 billion over five years, according to estimates in a study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association Health Forum. The study, released May 30, seeks to determine the oral health outcomes for children and associated health care costs when water fluoridation stops.

The ADA said in a news release that this report validates both the financial and health consequences of discontinuing water fluoridation programs reported in previous studies, adding that the impacts will be hardest felt by Medicaid beneficiaries.

“The simulation model of oral health outcomes again shows the negative health outcomes if we remove fluoride from the water in this country, particularly without any counter measures in place to prevent and treat oral diseases,” ADA President Brett Kessler, D.D.S., said in the release.

JAMA researchers conducted a cost-effectiveness analysis to estimate changes in total tooth decay, quality-adjusted life-years and costs associated with removal of fluoride in public water systems during five- and 10-year periods. The study, which used nationally representative data of over 8,400 children ages 0-19 from the National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey, found that increased tooth decay would disproportionately affect publicly insured and uninsured children compared to those with private dental insurance.

“This cost-effectiveness analysis found that cessation of public water fluoridation would increase tooth decay and health system costs in the U.S. Despite concerns regarding toxic effects associated with high levels of fluoride, this model demonstrates the substantial ongoing benefits of water fluoridation at safe levels currently recommended by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency, National Toxicity Program, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” the JAMA authors wrote.

In the release, the ADA reaffirmed its support for community water fluoridation, noting that previous research has confirmed that increased treatment costs and surgical interventions are associated with a loss of access to community water fluoridation. In Juneau, Alaska, children enrolled in Medicaid experienced an average increase in cavity-related treatment costs of 47% within nine years of discontinuing fluoride in the water. In Calgary, Canada, researchers reported a 78% increase in the use of general anesthesia needed to treat young children with severe dental decay when fluoridation stopped. Calgary will resume fluoridation in June.

The current study comes after Florida and Utah became the first two U.S. states to place complete bans on community water fluoridation, a move the ADA has called “irresponsible and misinformed.”

“The ADA follows research on the best ways to advance public health and welcomes research upheld with scientific rigor and statistically significant, evidence-based data to advance oral health care policy,” according to the release. “To date, the data continually shows that when fluoride is discontinued, disease also increases.”
