Most people think high blood pressure starts in the heart.
Sometimes it starts in the airway…..
When the airway is restricted, the body has to work harder to get oxygen where it needs to go. This can lead to mouth breathing, poor sleep, increased sympathetic nervous system activity, and chronic stress on the cardiovascular system. Over time, blood pressure may rise as the body compensates for an oxygen problem, not simply a circulation problem.
As a biological dentist, I look beyond the numbers. The size of the jaws, tongue posture, airway development, and breathing patterns can all influence overall health.
If you’re treating high blood pressure but no one has evaluated your airway, you may be missing an important piece of the puzzle.
