October 18–24 is Healthcare Quality Week, a time to recognize the people working behind the scenes to make healthcare safer, more effective, and better for every patient.

This week, we're proud to recognize our Quality Director, Jill Gale!

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and our community has been showing up in a big way!

On Friday, we welcomed Innovative Radiology's mobile mammography unit to Blount Rural Health Center, providing free mammograms for uninsured patients. All appointments were filled, and we're thankful to help make these important screenings more accessible!

This weekend also brought the Pink Together Stronger Together Cancer Awareness Walk in downtown Guthrie, where our community came together to support those affected by breast cancer.

And there's still more to come!

❤️ Would you know what to do if someone's heart suddenly stopped?

Today is World Restart a Heart Day, a reminder that knowing CPR could help you save someone's life!

Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere — at home, at work, or even at the grocery store. When every second counts, knowing how to respond can make all the difference.

🚨 If someone suddenly collapses and isn't breathing normally:

❤️ Call 911 immediately or have someone nearby call.

❤️ Start hands-only CPR. Push hard and fast in the center of the chest at a rate of 100–120 compressions per minute.

❤️ Use an AED (automated external defibrillator) if one is available. Turn it on and follow the voice instructions.

❤️ Keep going until emergency responders arrive or the person shows signs of life.

You don't have to be a healthcare professional to make a difference. Learning CPR is a skill that could one day save a family member, friend, neighbor, or even a stranger.

This World Restart a Heart Day, we encourage everyone in Todd County to take the time to learn CPR. You never know when someone might need you! Stay safe Todd County!

🎉 Happy Boss’s Day to our CEO, Anita Powell! 🎉

For the past 14 years, Anita has played an instrumental role in shaping Blount Rural Health Center into what it is today! Throughout her time as CEO, she has guided our organization through tremendous growth and exciting changes, always looking toward the future and new opportunities to better serve our community.

What began as a Free Clinic has grown into a Rural Health Clinic, expanded to include dental and behavioral health services, and most recently transitioned to a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike. These milestones represent years of dedication, hard work, and commitment to the communities we serve.

We are grateful for Anita’s continued leadership, her investment in Blount Rural Health Center's future, and everything she does for our organization and the people who depend on us. Fourteen years is quite an accomplishment, and we’re proud to celebrate her today!

Happy Boss’s Day, Anita! Thank you for all you do for our team! 💙

🍂 Is it a cold, or is it just fall in Kentucky? 🤧

One day it's chilly, the next it's back in the 80s! With fall weather making its appearance, so are the sneezing, sniffles, and stuffy noses.

But how can you tell if it's seasonal allergies or something more?

🌿 Seasonal Allergies: Sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, runny nose, and congestion. Symptoms often come and go with exposure to allergens and typically don't cause a fever.

🤧 Common Cold: Sore throat, coughing, congestion, and sometimes a mild fever. Symptoms usually develop gradually and improve within a week or two.

🤒 Flu: Often comes on suddenly with fever, body aches, chills, fatigue, and coughing.

While symptoms can overlap, knowing what to look for can help you decide when it's time to seek medical care.

🍂 Cooler weather is starting to make an appearance, and you know what that means… cold and flu season isn't far behind! 🤧

As temperatures bounce back and forth, it's a great time to get back into a few healthy habits to help keep those seasonal germs at bay!

🧼 Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

🤧 Cover your coughs and sneezes, and avoid touching your face.

🧴 Keep hand sanitizer nearby for those times soap and water aren't available.

🏠 Stay home when you're sick to help prevent spreading illness to others.

💉 Make sure you and your family are up to date on recommended vaccinations, including your annual flu shot.

A few simple habits can make a big difference in keeping our families and community healthy this fall!

Measles cases are continuing to rise in Kentucky — know the signs.

With the ongoing measles outbreak affecting communities across Kentucky, including cases here in Western Kentucky, we want our community to know what to watch for.

Common symptoms of measles include:

• High fever
• Cough
• Runny nose
• Red, watery eyes
• A rash that typically begins on the face and spreads down the body

Measles is highly contagious and spreads through the air. The virus can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infected person has left the area.

⚠️ If you believe you or your child may have been exposed to measles and develop symptoms, please CALL before coming into the clinic. Calling ahead allows our healthcare team to take the appropriate precautions and helps protect other patients.

Vaccination remains the best protection against measles. If you're unsure whether you or your child are up to date on the MMR vaccine, talk with your healthcare provider.
