Going the Extra Mile for Our Patients

At Dentistry by Design Elk Grove, Dr. Horia Ionescu has always thought that if something can be carefully fixed and serve a patient well, it justifies careful consideration before being replaced.
This week, a patient returned after more than six years when an implant crown became detached. The easiest solution would have been to recommend a new crown. Instead, Dr. Ionescu chose to explore every practical option to help the patient.
That meant coordinating with a specialist to get a healing cap, communicating with the dental laboratory, arranging urgent transportation of components, and wisely planning treatment in hopes of repairing the existing crown. While the repair is provisional and cannot be guaranteed long-term, it may allow the patient to continue chewing comfortably while delaying a substantial expense until insurance benefits become available.
This approach requires more time, more coordination, and more effort. It is not always the most lucrative path, but Dr. Ionescu believes dentistry should be led by what is best for the patient whenever possible.
At Dentistry by Design, our goal is not simply to replace what is broken—it is to preserve, repair, and protect whenever it can be done safely and responsibly.
