A year and a half for a healthier bite and a beautiful transformation!

This patient came to us with a significant deep bite, where the upper front teeth overlapped the lower front teeth more than they should. In fact, his lower teeth were hitting his upper gums! He also had a large class II malocclusion, where the upper teeth are too far forward relative to the lower. After 18 months of braces and elastics, we were able to create a healthier, more balanced bite — and a beautiful smile!

Deep bite correction is about much more than aesthetics. A significant deep bite can contribute to excessive tooth wear, chipping or trauma to the front teeth, irritation of the gums or palate, and unfavorable forces on the teeth.

Orthodontic treatment allows us to improve not only how a smile looks, but how the teeth fit and function together for long-term dental health. 🦷

Orthodontic treatment is so much more than just aligning teeth! Check out this case that demonstrates this so well!

Our patient came in with the following problems:
- severe open bite with contact only on the back teeth
- Narrow palate
- Snoring, mouth breathing, and compensatory gingival inflammation
- Enlarged adenoids and lingual tonsils
- V-shaped arch forms
- Retained upper primary canines and all primary second molars
- Class II occlusion with a severed overjet
- Hypererupted molars with a vertical growth pattern
- Upper and lower crowding

Our treatment plan included braces, a lower lingual holding arch, and an RPE with intrusion hooks and miniscrews to help predictably closing her bite with some mandibular counterclockwise rotation. We also referred our patient to an ENT for allergy/airway evaluation. An adenotonillectomy was performed with her ENT to better assist nasal breathing. Treatment took 30 months! To top it off, our patient can more easily breathe through her nose and is no longer snoring!
