From Decades of TMJ Pain to Hope and Relief: Check out Ruwanie’s MAGO Therapy Success Story...
One of the most rewarding parts of my practice is helping patients discover that the jaw pain, headaches, discomfort, and frustration they have been living with for years may actually be treatable. Many patients come to me after trying multiple approaches, often believing that their TMJ/TMD symptoms are simply something they must endure for the rest of their lives.
Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with my patient, Ruwanie, after she successfully completed my MAGO (Maxillary Anterior Guided Orthotic) Therapy Treatment Protocol. Her story is one that I believe will resonate with many people who have been struggling with TMJ disorders and wondering if there is hope for lasting relief.
When I asked Ruwanie what life was like before treatment, she shared a story that spans decades.
"I have been living with TMJ since I was a teenager. I had a mouth guard that I wore every night, and the pain was tolerated because I didn't know anything different. By luck, my mouth guard broke, and I was searching for options. I came across your website, and I read your patient success stories. I felt hope for the first time in decades."
For many TMJ sufferers, that feeling of hope can be hard to find. After years of discomfort, it is easy to believe that pain is simply part of daily life. Ruwanie explained that before finding our office, she had never truly believed her condition could be corrected.
"I came and met with you, and I remember leaving your office and calling my husband and saying, 'I think this is fixable.' I never felt like that was ever a possibility. I felt like this was something I would live with for the rest of my life and that I'd be old trying to wiggle my jaw into place every night."
That statement is one I will never forget.
Imagine living for decades believing your future would always include jaw pain, discomfort while eating, difficulty sleeping, and the constant need to compensate for a jaw that never feels quite right. Unfortunately, many TMJ patients feel exactly the same way.
After a comprehensive evaluation, we began Ruwani’s MAGO Therapy Treatment Protocol. The goal was to stabilize her bite, improve jaw function, reduce strain on the temporomandibular joints, and allow the muscles and joints to function in a healthier position.
The results were remarkable.
"So I started your MAGO treatment plan, and I can't even begin to describe how successful it has been for me and how enjoyable daily activities like eating and going to bed at night without having to worry about my jaw. It's been amazing."
As she shared her experience, it was clear how meaningful this transformation had been. The emotional impact of finally finding relief after so many years was evident.
During our conversation, I mentioned that her pain level had dropped dramatically.
Her discomfort had gone from a pain level of approximately 7 out of 10 before treatment to just 0 to 1 out of 10 after completing MAGO therapy.
For someone who had spent decades managing daily pain, that kind of improvement can truly be life changing.
One of the most important messages I hope people take away from Ruwanie's story is this: just because you have lived with TMJ symptoms for years does not mean you have to continue living that way.
Every patient is different, and every TMJ case requires a thorough evaluation and individualized treatment plan. However, many patients are surprised to learn that there are treatment options available that address the underlying causes of their symptoms rather than simply helping them cope with the discomfort.
Ruwanie’s journey does not end with MAGO therapy. Now that her jaw is stabilized and functioning comfortably, we are beginning the next phase of treatment with aligners to help further improve her bite and support her long-term results.
Her story is a wonderful example of what can happen when hope is combined with the right diagnosis, the right treatment plan, and a commitment to improving health and function.
If you have been struggling with TMJ/TMD symptoms, jaw pain, headaches, facial pain, clicking or popping joints, difficulty chewing, or bite problems, I want you to know that there may be solutions available.
Like Ruwanie, you may discover that what once seemed impossible is actually achievable.
After decades of pain and uncertainty, she found relief. More importantly, she found hope.
And sometimes, hope is where healing begins.
