One simple trick for making dental care easier? Habit stacking. Connect brushing and flossing to something your child already does every day:

When this happens, a treatment such as a pulpotomy or pulp cap may be recommended. The goal is to treat and protect the affected area and help preserve the tooth. Depending on the tooth and treatment needed, a dental crown may then be placed to provide additional support and protection.

What exactly is a fluoride treatment, and does every child need the same approach? 🦷💚

Professional fluoride varnish contains a more concentrated form of fluoride than everyday toothpaste. It’s quickly painted onto the teeth, where it stays in contact with the enamel and helps strengthen areas that may be more vulnerable to cavities.

But cavity risk isn’t the same for every child.

When deciding whether fluoride treatment may be beneficial, Dr. Lis considers factors like previous cavities, early enamel changes, brushing and flossing habits, frequent snacking or sugary drinks, orthodontic appliances, medications, and your child’s overall dental needs.

That means a child with excellent home care and no history of cavities may have different preventive needs than a child who has experienced repeated decay.
