Myth: Oral Surgery Always Hurts

Fact: Some oral surgeries involve pain, sure, but not all of them are painful for everyone. Each of us has a different pain threshold, and the less invasive the surgery, the less likely it is that the surgery will involve much pain. Most oral surgeries are not classified as painful.

Here at Mid Michigan Oral Surgery we've had a lot of people ask for clarification on various oral surgery 'facts' they've been told by friends and family or read about online. Let's face it, we've all heard these types of myths, from "Oral surgery is painful no matter what!" to "It isn't safe to go under anesthesia."

Part of our job is to dispel these rumors and give you the facts. Maxillofacial surgery - which is a fancy medical term for oral surgery - is any type of surgical procedure that is conducted on the face, jaw, neck, or soft tissue inside of a person's mouth.

Our fast-paced office is looking for a full-time, friendly, and responsible Oral Surgery Assistant to support the doctors’ work and actively facilitate patients’ recovery. You will apply medical techniques and principles under the direction of an Oral Surgeon and you will deal with a diverse set of patients offering them care and encouragement.

Our practice has 3 locations - East Lansing, Grand Ledge, and Charlotte. The position is primarily stationed in Grand Ledge, however some travel to the other offices may be required depending on employee availability.

Responsibilities include assisting in pre-operative and post-operative care of patients, acquiring and reviewing patient histories,
acquiring and reviewing patient histories, monitoring patients’ progress and keep records of treatments, surgeries or other medical events, attending to emergencies, assisting in surgical procedures, such as extractions, biopsies, and jaw surgery, preparing patients for examinations and conducting routine procedures (measure blood pressure and temperature),
cultivating a climate of trust and compassion for the patients,
complying strictly with medical care regulations and safety standards, collaborating effectively with team members of various specializations, and taking radiographs.

Experience in the oral surgery field is strongly desired but not necessary. Knowledge of medical guidelines and procedures regarding examination, surgery, and recovery is important.
