Dentistry is one of the top professions with the highest su***de rates.
I’ve already lost 3 colleagues to su***de this year alone.

People don’t realize how heavy this field can be, how isolating, how physically and emotionally demanding. And yet, multiple times a day, I meet new people who feel the need to lead with:
“I hate the dentist.”

Imagine that. Imagine introducing yourself at work, at a dinner, a school event, and people casually announce how much they hate what you do.

It’s exhausting. It chips away at you.

We need to normalize NOT saying that. We need to normalize showing kindness to the people trying to help you.

Dentists are not your enemy, we’re healthcare providers doing our best in a high-pressure field where perfection is expected but grace is rarely given.

Please be mindful. Words matter. And so does our mental health.

Does your gums bleed when flossing? Call our office today for an evaluation. 410-284-6650

Bleeding gums while flossing can be caused by a number of things, including:

Gum disease: A bacterial infection that causes inflammation and bleeding gums. Gum disease is often caused by poor oral hygiene, such as not brushing and flossing regularly. Other symptoms include red, swollen, or tender gums.

Flossing too hard: Moving the floss too aggressively can injure the soft tissue of your gums.

Soft tissue injury: A cut or sore in your soft tissue can be irritated by flossing.

Abscessed tooth: An infected tooth can impact the gum tissue.

Starting a new flossing routine: Light bleeding is normal when you first start flossing, but it should stop within a few days.

The big question with dentures is always, how often should I clean my dentures? You should still see a dentist for an oral exam, for oral cancer screening as well.

It is important to treat your dentures like you would treat your natural teeth. You should keep them as clean as possible so that you don’t lose any more teeth, or have inflamed gums or bacterial and fungal infections. We usually recommend that you clean them thoroughly at least once a day, and after eating if you need to.

Do you need a dental crown?
A dental crown can be used for a number of reasons, including:

Protecting a tooth: Crowns can protect a tooth from breaking or further decay. They can also be used to hold together a cracked tooth.

Restoring a tooth: Crowns can restore a broken, worn-down, or severely decayed tooth.

Covering a tooth: Crowns can cover a tooth that is discolored, misshapen, or has had a root canal.

Supporting a tooth: Crowns can support a tooth that has a large filling or doesn't have much tooth left.

Holding a bridge in place: Crowns can hold a dental bridge or denture in place.

Cosmetic modification: Crowns can be used to improve the appearance of a smile.

Covering an implant: Crowns can cover a dental implant.

Dental crowns are custom-made to match the shape, size, and color of your natural teeth. They can be made from a variety of materials, including porcelain, ceramic, or metal alloys.

Call our office today to schedule a whitening.

Teeth whitening is a dental procedure that lightens the color of teeth by bleaching them. It can lighten teeth by several shades, but it can't make them perfectly white.

Teeth whitening can be done in a dentist's office or at home, and there are several methods available, including:

In-office treatments
A dentist can use a variety of techniques, such as polishing the teeth, applying a bleaching solution, and using a light to activate the solution.

Home products
There are a variety of home products available, including whitening strips and pre-formed trays that contain a bleaching solution.

Whitening toothpaste
Some whitening toothpastes contain abrasives to remove surface stains, and others contain low levels of peroxide to lighten teeth.

Teeth whitening works by breaking down the chromogens that make up tooth stains into smaller, less colored molecules. The main ingredients used in teeth whitening products are hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide.

Some people experience tooth sensitivity after using teeth whitening products, but this is usually temporary. Dentists typically recommend delaying teeth whitening treatments if you have gum disease.
