Are SILVER fillings bad for you??
Silver fillings are an amalgamation of silver, copper, tin, and the dreaded mercury.
These fillings can be stable for years! You do not need to take them out just because they are silver.
However, if they start to corrode and chip along the edges (as metals will do) or have leakage, it’s time to replace them. Most people leave these in their mouths for way too long.
Almost every time I go in to replace old silver fillings, I almost always find 2 things. 1) cavities under them or 2) cracks or microfractures in the tooth structure.
Make sure your mercury fillings get replaced appropriately, with the proper isolation of a rubber dam and an extraoral vacuum to suck up the aerosol and v***r.
Come see Dr, Norton for an evaluation and safely removal of Amalgam Fillings.
