Sugar is bad, but does that mean fruit is bad?
๐
Technically sugar, and we are referring to refined white sugar, is only "bad" when consumed in excess. Studies have shown that those people who eat up to 25% of their daily calories as processed sugar (think donuts, cookies, white bread/pasta) are nearly 3 times more likely to die of heart disease than those that ate less than 10%.
๐
Fruit does contain sugar, and sometimes a lot of it, but it is in the form of 3 different kinds- fructose, glucose, and a combination of the two. Fruit isn't JUST sugar, it also contains vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants.

A review in the Journal of Diabetes Investigation concluded that the more fruit you eat, the less likely you are to develop type 2 diabetes. Whole fruit would probably never cause a health issue, but you will have to be careful with dried fruit, fruit juices, and smoothies. These contain concentrated forms of the natural fruit sugars.
๐
As far as your teeth go, fruit is an excellent option for a snack but you have to be careful of the acid content. Citrus fruits are usually very acidic. When patients suck on lemons or eat only citrus fruits, they can erode healthy tooth structure. Moderation and diversification is key to a balanced lifestyle!
