Wedding season is officially here, and your smile is going to be in a lot of photos. Two things worth doing before the big day: keep a travel bag with your toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss ready to go, and book your professional whitening and cleaning two to three weeks out so your smile has time to settle before the cameras come out.

Born in Taiwan and raised in Dallas, Dr. Shiao brings a diverse background and a thoughtful, patient-centered approach to dentistry.

He earned dual degrees in History and Biology from Washington University in St. Louis, followed by his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from Temple University. He later served as a clinical instructor and now teaches at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry.

Fluent in Mandarin and Taiwanese, he connects easily with a diverse patient community.

Outside the office, he’s a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan—so much so that he named his son after Troy Aikman.

1. A professional cleaning: no matter how diligent your home routine is, there are places only we can reach.

2. An electric toothbrush: it outperforms a manual brush in almost every category and requires less effort, not more.

3. Cocofloss: premium floss is one of those small upgrades that makes the habit actually stick.

4. A fluoride toothpaste: fluoride has decades of research behind it and it works. Sensitive teeth? Sensodyne is worth trying.

Everything your kids eat and drink at school is shifting the PH level of their mouth throughout the day. When the balance tips acidic, that's when teeth become vulnerable and cavities find their opening.

Dr. Liao's antidote is as simple as it gets: water. It flushes out food, rebalances the mouth after meals, and gives teeth a fighting chance between the morning and evening brush. The sticky, gummy snacks are doing the opposite. They cling to the surface of teeth and keep the environment acidic long after the snack is gone.

A full water bottle is one of the smallest changes with one of the more consistent payoffs. Worth making it a back to school habit.
