Some professional distinctions matter because they reflect values that shape how care is delivered. Fellowships and leadership recognitions tied to ethics, service, and professional standards are meaningful to me because they represent more than technical skill alone. They reflect responsibility, engagement, and a commitment to the profession beyond the minimum. For patients, that matters because trust matters. Good care depends not only on clinical ability, but also on judgment, standards, and integrity.

Mid-October is a great time to review unfinished treatment and remaining dental insurance benefits before the year starts moving faster. If you already know you have care to complete, now is a much better time to revisit it than waiting until late November or December. Annual maximums often do not roll over, and the sooner patients start planning, the more flexibility they usually have in both timing and treatment flow.

What makes the MAGD (Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry) especially meaningful to me is not simply the credential itself, but what it represented early in my professional journey: a serious commitment to continuing education long before it became a convenient talking point. Lifelong learning has been part of how I have approached dentistry for a long time. For patients, that matters because advanced care is not only about what a dentist can do with their hands. One of the professional distinctions that matters most to me is my Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry, or MAGD. What matters to patients is not just the letters themselves, but what they reflect: a deep and long-standing commitment to continuing education and lifelong learning. Dentistry keeps evolving, and I have always believed patients deserve a dentist who keeps learning along with it. Better diagnosis, better planning, and better communication all grow out of that mindset.

Not really. It can scrub a little surface stain, but the charcoal itself has not been shown to whiten your teeth, and some of these products leave out fluoride, the part that protects you from cavities. In the video I cover what the research found, the three kinds of charcoal product, who should be careful, and what I would use instead.
