Wild about smiles on August 30 at the Detroit Zoo is over. A great day of volunteers Dentists and dental students from University of Detroit Mercy and University of Michigan talking to kids about brushing their teeth. We’re calling it the great rain of 2026. They gave out 567 dental kits and everyone had a wonderful time. Dentists are Wild about Smiles and talking about Good Oral Health in the rain!

Wild About Smiles on August 30, 2026. Great volunteers and they gave away about 567 dental kits to kids and adults who came out on a rainy day. It poured, drenching everyone and everything at the event. Dentists are tough! All smiled throughout it all! Putting up emergency extra canopy or explaining to a child how to brush. I am officially calling this “The great rain of 2026” and we survived!

Congratulations to the MDA Advocacy Team for SB150 becoming law. This new law fixes the problem where some insurance companies use virtual credit cards to pay dentists, but then the dentist is charged a fee to access the payment. This new law states that an insurance company shall provide one or more methods of payments or reimbursements that provide the dentist with 100 percent of the amount payable and do not require the dentist to incur a fee to access the payment or reimbursement.

A big advocacy win for Michigan dentists! 🎉

Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed Senate Bill 105 into law, ensuring dentists can receive insurance payments without being forced to pay fees just to access their own reimbursements. Under the new law, insurers must offer at least one payment method that allows dentists to receive 100% of the amount owed — without any access fees.
