Greetings. Sorry, I haven't posted in a while. We continue to follow CDC guidelines keeping our dental patients and staff safe from COVID-19.

In late summer, we added more technology to the office by purchasing a dental intraoral scanner. There are a few scanners on the market, the brand we purchased is called an Intelliscan3D. It allows us to take 3D photos/images instead of impressions for the fabrication of crowns or orthodontic aligners. The scan is then emailed to a lab which reduces turnaround time as well as increasing the precision of the final product! Our results have been amazing! Please feel free to call the office if you have any questions about this exciting new product.

Cheers for now!

I was fortunate to receive my first dose of the Pfizer Vaccine yesterday! The only "side effect" was a sore arm the following day, same as the yearly flu shot. We will, however, continue to follow guidelines in the office to keep everyone safe.

We are very proud of how our daughter, Monica, as well as all of the brave ICU nurses at Glenbrook Hospital, take care of COVID patients. They are all heroes! She was featured in a WGN newscast yesterday evening.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE......
MOST DENTISTS SEE INCREASE IN STRESS-RELATED ORAL HEALTH CONDITIONS
Glamour Magazine (10/26, McCoy) reported that most dentists have seen an increase in stress-related oral health conditions since the coronavirus pandemic began, according to “a recent survey of 3,491 American dentists.” These conditions include bruxism and cracked teeth, among others. Dr. Tricia Quartey-Sagaille, an ADA spokesperson, said, “I’ve never had this many [patients in night guards],” describing the increase as “extraordinary.” Bruxism may cause oral health problems, including fractured teeth. “You can break it to a point where the inside part of the tooth is exposed, and now you have a higher likelihood of having cavities and then the pain associated with that,” said Dr. Quartey-Sagaille.
In addition, more patients may be neglecting oral hygiene during the pandemic, WKBT-TV La Crosse, WI (10/26, Tighe) reported. Before the pandemic, “your day had a rhythm to it,” Dr. Matthew Messina, a spokesperson for the ADA, told USA TODAY last month. When that rhythm is interrupted, it can be easy to forget “simple little things like oral hygiene,” he said.

DENTAL VISITS ARE SAFE, ESSENTIAL:
During ABC’s Good Morning America (10/19) show, medical correspondent Dr. Jen Ashton responded to viewers’ coronavirus questions, including whether it is safe to receive nonemergency dental care during the pandemic. The ADA and the CDC say “dental care is considered essential health care,” noted Dr. Ashton at the 1:50 mark of the video segment, adding “dentists have been taking extreme precautions” since even “before the coronavirus pandemic.” With this in mind, “you should not delay dental care,” said Dr. Ashton.
This is the second time that GMA and medical correspondent Dr. Ashton have told viewers that dental care is an essential service. The first segment aired in August. (See mention at 2:30 mark.)
In addition, in an opinion piece in The Hill (10/18), Dr. Jonathan Fielding, M.D., a UCLA professor of Health Policy and Management, discussed the potential impact of delayed health care. While some dental patients are delaying care due to concerns about COVID-19 transmission, Dr. Fielding stated that “dentists and the ADA have been a model of how to approach COVID-19 safety proactively.”

Happy summer to all. In case you are still afraid to see us, here is a great clip from NBC about your visit to the dentist. It is prefaced by the president of the ADA about office safety and the necessity to not prolong your visit for too long a period. Stay well and hope to see you soon!

Dentists describe what to expect at your next dental appointment — and why it's important to take care of your oral health at home.

Greetings to all. We have some GREAT NEWS: We have been given permission by the IDPH and ISDS to reopen our office effective Monday, May 11. We have always followed CDC guidelines to keep our patients and staff as safe as possible. These guidelines have been updated by the CDC and rest assured, we will be following them as close as is currently possible given the environment we now live in.

Among the obvious precautions such as hand washing and wearing masks mentioned in previous updates, we have our air filtered using SurgicallyCleanAir units which circulates air and eradicates viruses; our carpets have been cleaned and sanitized; we have installed 'sneeze guards;' and have installed a high air evacuation unit for use during aerosol producing procedures. We have modified some procedures to minimize risk of aerosol production for the time being until we we are given the green light to reintroduce these procedures back into the office.

I fully understand that some patients are still apprehensive about making appointments. We will try to stay in touch with you until you feel more comfortable about coming in for treatment. We have not been able to see patients since March 17th so we will have a backlog of clients trying to get in--please be patient, we will try to accommodate you as soon as possible. As always, if you feel you are having a dental emergency, please notify us as soon as possible and we will get you in post haste.

Thank you again for your kind words when we called you and had to postpone your appointment. It was a pleasure to hear your concern for our family. It really meant a lot.

We hope to see you soon. Stay well.

UPDATE on reopening: Following Gov. Pritzker's recommendations, ALL dental offices, including our own, are to remain closed until the end of April. We hope to reopen on Friday, May 1, 2020. To help accommodate you, we will have extended hours available. As before, we are available for dental emergencies. Please call the office if you think you may need emergency care.

On a more positive note, we DONATED 250 masks to Glenbrook Hospital! I am so proud of our daughter, Monica, a nurse on the front lines at Glenbrook Hospital, OUR HERO.

03/30/2020

Well it's March 30. Unfortunately we are not able to open at this time. Until we get further instructions, we are hopefully reopening on Wednesday, April 8. Please stay safe out there and practice social distancing as prescribed. Wash your hands often, as I do out of habit.

I'm getting a lot of projects done at home to pass the time. I may run out soon though. If anyone has any emergencies, please do not hesitate to call the office. We are monitoring messages several times a day.

Cheers to all, and thank you for your loyalty.

Following recommendations by the CDC, ADA, ISDS and CDS, we have temporarily closed our office in an effort to contain the COVID-19 coronavirus. We ARE available for anyone in need of emergency care. My office number is (847) 824-7722 if you need to reach me. You may leave a message or call the emergency number on the answering machine.

We hope to reopen on Monday, March 30 after the two week recommended closure. Rescheduling of patients who have had their appointments cancelled will take place as soon as possible via phone calls from our office manager. We apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused anyone. We pray that this effort has an impact on the spread of the virus and will bring closure sooner rather than later. Thank you for your understanding.
