Cheers to Ten years!
It’s hard to believe that an entire decade has passed since I was handed the keys to Des Moines Family Dentistry. Some days it feels like yesterday, and other days it feels like this practice has always been part of who I am.
As I reflect on these last ten years, I realize this story isn’t really about a building or a business. It’s about people. It’s about trust. It’s about relationships. And most of all, it’s about all of you.
When I became the owner of Des Moines Family Dentistry in 2016, life was changing in every direction. That August, my oldest daughter was walking into her very first day of kindergarten. I remember wondering where the time would go. Today, she’s preparing to begin her sophomore year of high school. Somehow, those years disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Just two months later, our family welcomed our third child. She is starting fourth grade and her brother ( the one who just broke part of a permanent tooth in a baseball tournament last week) is starting seventh grade. Looking back now, I can’t help but smile at how closely my family has grown alongside this practice. Many of you have watched my children grow up through stories at appointments or simply by asking, “How are the kids?” Those conversations have always meant more to me than you probably realized.
And while my family was growing, so was yours.
Over the years, we’ve celebrated with you as children lost their first teeth, teenagers got braces off, parents became grandparents, and families welcomed new babies. We’ve laughed together, cried together, celebrated milestones, and even mourned losses. Dentistry has always been about so much more than teeth. It’s about caring for people through every season of life.
Then came 2020.
None of us will ever forget the uncertainty the pandemic brought. Overnight, everything changed. Dentistry became one of the professions most dramatically impacted. We learned new protocols almost daily, covered ourselves head to toe in protective equipment, rearranged schedules, and found ourselves navigating challenges none of us had imagined.
But what I remember most isn’t the fear.
I remember your kindness.
I remember the notes of encouragement, the grace you showed us as we adapted, the smiles we could somehow still see behind masks, and the unwavering trust you placed in our team. During one of the most difficult seasons in healthcare, you reminded us why we love what we do.
Then came another dream fulfilled.
In 2024, we opened the doors to our new location on Ingersoll. Walking into that building for the first time wasn’t just exciting—it was emotional. Every room represented years of planning, hoping, praying, and believing that we could create a place where patients would feel welcomed, comfortable, and cared for from the moment they arrived.
Today, when I look around our office, I see something far more important than beautiful walls or new equipment.
I see relationships.
I see patients who have trusted us for decades and patients who found us just last week. I see children who are now adults bringing in children of their own. I see familiar smiles, new friendships, and countless stories that have become woven into the fabric of this practice.
Our team has grown and changed over the years as well. Some of the faces you’ve come to know have moved on to new adventures, while many wonderful new team members have joined us. Change is a natural part of every journey, but one thing has never changed—and never will.
Every person who joins Des Moines Family Dentistry shares one purpose: to care for every patient as we would our own family. Whether we’re welcoming someone through our doors for the very first time or greeting a patient we’ve known for years, our goal is always the same—to provide exceptional dentistry with compassion, honesty, and as much comfort as possible.
That commitment has been our foundation for the past ten years, and it will continue to guide us for many years to come.
When people ask me what I’m most proud of after ten years, it isn’t the new building or the technology we’ve added. It isn’t the growth of the practice.
It’s the trust.
Trust isn’t earned in a single visit. It’s built appointment by appointment, conversation by conversation, year after year. The fact that so many of you have chosen us—not just once, but over and over again—and have recommended us to your family and friends is the greatest compliment I could ever receive.
Thank you for allowing me to live my dream while caring for your families.
Thank you for your confidence, your patience, your encouragement, your loyalty, and your friendship.
Thank you for making Des Moines Family Dentistry more than just a dental office.
You’ve made it a community.
As we celebrate ten years, I feel incredibly hopeful for the future. We will continue learning, growing, investing in our team, embracing new technology, and doing everything we can to provide the care you deserve.
The last ten years have been an incredible journey.
I can’t wait to see where the next ten take us.
Here’s to healthy smiles, lasting friendships, and the privilege of serving this amazing community.
Cheers to 10 years!
With heartfelt gratitude,
and a reminder to brush and floss!
